I would say that the second is best, but if you think that you might end up playing them all, I would play them in order.  While they do each stand alone and you do not have to have played one to play another, the story makes more sense in sequence.

How about getting your initials built out of walls in one of the dungeon maps like in Wizardry 1?  After all, I can post questions to you on how to play the game for free.

You definitely can do it past Day 160.  I got caught up in the story and completed the game around day 90-100 and then reloaded from a save from shortly before the final battle.  I then wandered around completing all of the minor quests, getting training using crystals, wasting time, etc until Day 160 so that I could do the Day 160 event.  Now I just need to go back to the final battle and the game will be over.

Rosemary in Almaria is the only one that I know for sure crafts it.  I believe there are five locations that you can find it already made.  The locations that I think that you can find it are:  Halls of Chaos, Fort Dolthar,  Empire Lands, Empire Archives, and Fort Remote.  The one in Empire Lands is from Despain who is a merchant.

I just looked back at Silver's A1 maps and Mike's A:EFTP maps and it does appear that you are at the correct corpse.  If it is not in one of your character's inventories and not in the corpse's inventory, then you are going to need to consider reloading a pervious save or getting advice from one of the people who is more familiar with the scrips and flags than I am.
