Posted 27 July 2015 - 11:18 PM #1 Uh oh, corrupted scenarios!

I just finished sifting through all the scenario ZIPs on TrueSite. I didn't try playing the scenarios, but I simply tried to unzip them. Alas, a number of them will not unzip because the archives seem to be corrupted. I got a few of them to work via Spidweb's official tables, but there are still some important and popular scenarios that do not exist in uncorrupted form on either site. If you are in possession of a working copy of any of these scenarios, please email them to TheAlmightyDummyEmailOfStuff @ gmail . com (without the spaces) with the subject line "flank steak" so I know it's not spam. If you know somewhere they are hosted on the Internet besides TrueSite and the Spidweb tables, posting the link here will work too. Thank you.

The list of corrupted scenarios is:

100 Evil Sliths
Caer Selwyn
The Claim
The Crusaders
Domestic Evil  (Thanks, Thaluikhain!)
Doomed Land
Doomguard Armor (Thanks, Celtic Minstrel!)
DragonQuest (this may not be the full title, that's the name of TrueSite's ZIP)
Escapades in the Green Mountains
Foreshadows (Yes, like I said, some of them are important)
Fort Emerald Robbery
Isle of Serin
Kallaskagathos (Thanks, Celtic Minstrel!)
Kistar's Quest
Mortishire
Nephil's Defense
Parody
Signs and Portents
War Preparations
The Za-Khazi Edit

Some of these I'd really like to play... :(

I don't suppose you know what the filenames are called?  Because all my scenarios are sorta lumped in together, and for example, "Domestic Evil" seems to be 4 files beginning with "de" (I'll send you that).  I think I played the Crusaders so I should have that one, but don't know what the .exs file is called.  Don't think I've heard of most of those though.

I don't know what the filenames are, because I can't unzip them. :/ All I have is the full titles that Jewels put on her ZIP files.

Thanks for sending me DE though.

Anyway as I understand most of those scenarios are pretty crappy, except:

"The Claim" is Lt. Sullust's well-received second scenario (a collaboration IIRC).

"Doomguard Armor" is a more-or-less useless-now utility from Lilith. It was released under her old moniker, Thuryl, if that helps someone find it, although I bet she probably still has a copy herself. Do you, Lilith?)

"Foreshadows" is part of *i's "At the Gallows"/"Spears" series, probably released under the name Stareye, and I believe it's a cinematic scenario. *i, if you have a copy, please send.

"Kallaskagathos" and "Signs and Portents" are part of Alcritas's super-popular series, "The Arc", so I'm sure someone has those too. Please send. "The Za-Khazi Edit" is Alcritas's attempt to "fix" "The Za-Khazi Run", a scenario many didn't like, but I loved it. Regardless, it would be good to have the edited version.

-------

But again, it's important for us to get our hands on the other, unpopular/rarely played scenarios too, at least for posterity's sake. Anyone who can, please help!

EDIT: Celtic Minstrel pointed out that I just said something offensive and incorrect unintentionally. "Doomguard Armor" is OBSOLETE, not useless. As I recall it was a watered-down version of "Undoomvahgaz Armor", a scenario made with the infamous Super Editor to give the party super-powerful equipment. We weren't allowed to talk about the Super Editor at the time and Zaloopa was always picky about who they let use the scenario, so Lilith made "Doomguard Armor" with the standard editor, as good as the equipment can be without "cheating". Now even "Undoomvahgaz Armor" is obsolete, with the new capabilities of the OBoE Scenario Editor.

Though the archives are corrupt (or, incomplete), they still contain index information, so I was able to determine the filenames.

Thanks, CM, and also thanks for telling me Doomguard Armor is Zaloopa's (and it works), and Lilith's is Demon Armor. D'oh.

So what's Undoomvahgaz Armor? I don't know if it even existed...

It seems I had a pippen.exs in my old BoE scenarios folder, so I've sent that off.

Doomguard Armour and Undoomvahgaz Armour were both by Zaloopa. Undoomvahgaz Armour was the super-strong super editor version that Zaloopa didn't want being posted on public websites, while Doomguard Armour was a weaker version that he was okay with people distributing.

I made Demon Armour to fill the gap without using the super editor but with a cheating utility: while it was technically made using the standard editor, the items in it are much stronger than the standard editor will normally allow. I originally only intended it for my own use, but I sent it to someone (I think Kelandon) who was in need of a god party for some reason and it ended up being uploaded to a scenario archive.

I noticed most of my scenarios are on your list. I've emailed them to you - enjoy, but beware, the storylines can be pretty dumb.
