Tenderfoot Thahd doomramen
Recently, my hardrive died, taking my six registered games (all of Avernum, Geneforge 1 and 2) with it. I didn't have backups (I admit that was poor planning, but the problem exists nonetheless). So now I'm wondering if anyone knows if I might be able to get them replaced without buying them again. I don't want to cheat the company... I did pay for them in the first place. I don't know if they have any company policy involving this, or if they keep extensive enough sales records to know that I paid for the games. I will probably end up getting them again eventually regardless of whether I had to pay or not, but it seemed worth asking

If you download new versions of Avernum and Geneforge from their site and ask them for a new reg code, they will give one to you. I believe you have to supply the name you bought the game with (the buyers name) but that's about it, I think.

Unflappable Drayk Toenail Returns
That happened to me twice. I didn't push it the second time though. I didn't want SpidWeb to think I was giving regestration codes away. I just moved on to other games.
Garrulous Glaahk Dastal
Believe me, they keep records, but they only send emails to the email you gave when registering. When I got a PC, and had previously registered Exile games on my Mac, which I had registered about 4 years earlier, I got 'em recovered. Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
I don't know what waiting you've experienced, Arenax. I've gotten new registration codes by email in less than two days and new ones by phone immediately. Using a phone should also take care of any problems you have from switching to a new email. —Alorael, who had a lovely time with an old Performa that ate hard disks. He went through three of them in two months, and each time required new passwords. Spiderweb was very helpful about it. No matter what you think of Jeff's BoE/BoA policies, Spiderweb's customer service is top notch.

Apparently they lost my aunt's account information (she was the one who bought it for me). It took two calls from me and two from her, emails from both of us, and a fax to get it done. Fledgling Fyora Rodeo Boy
The same thing happened to me. I did have a backup and a printout of the original registration email, but the code still didn't work (Geneforge). For all I know, it may never have worked. I've never been very good at games, so I may never have reached the limit of the demo! :-)
Garrulous Glaahk tbg10101
Good thing most of my SpidWeb games are on disks . . . Maybe you should do that . . .
Kyshakk Koan Arenax
Even if they're on disk, the ones that need a code will generate a new code. You still need to go through the hassle of getting it out of JV. BoE and Nethergate, AFAIK, are the only ones that won't.
Tenderfoot Thahd Varg
When I IDA'ed the games (I needed to reduce the sound volume), I've found a couple formulas that are used to check that; in case that's needed I can PM or email them to you (assuming you've really bought the games). Or maybe you should search a bit for some automatic keygens... well, if you've already paid, you've got the moral right to use them it they exist. P.S. Raid mirror rules =)
Kyshakk Koan Arenax
I forsee bannage for such conversation.
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
I don't think there's anything wrong with cracking the games if you've already bought them and somehow gotten them unregistered. I'm also pretty sure that discussing such a topic is not a bannable offense, although it's fairly borderline. (Giving the locations of such cracks is, though.) However, it's highly unnecessary, because if you just e-mail Spiderweb, they'll send you new keys relatively quickly. I got mine within a few hours. Garrulous Glaahk tbg10101
Make a text file of the Registration code and put it onto the disk along with the game, that way you'll have it.

Let's see if I can make this a little simpler. When you install the game, it seeds a new key. The key is different every time you install the game. Each key has a different registration code. The code you have on the disk ain't going to work.
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Making a backup of the misc.dat file (for the Exile series) or the preferences file (for the rest) allows registration to be preserved, though.

Well-Actually War Trall Archmagus Micael
You don't need to have a backup - they're just a waste of space!!! or so I find) - Archmagi Micael

Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
That has been said not just once, but in fact twice in this thread already, Brenitt-Ihrno. EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure your signature is in violation of the CoC.
