Ineffable Wingbolt DesertPlah Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 So I think I'll finish The Foolish Giant as my re-entry present to BoE. Quote

Ineffable Wingbolt Milla Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 The foolish giant...I think I've heard of that story. Is it the one where this Giant falls in love with this beautiful but cruel hearted (although he doesn't know the second part). And she tells him to prove his love to her bying filling a certain hole in the rock with his own blood. She neglects to tell him a vital fact about this hole. It ends with him bleeding to death anyway. Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt DesertPlah Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 … Not quite the foolish giant I was thinking of. I got this one from a children's storybook. Yikes. Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt Milla Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I got the story from a story book, honest. Anyway, do you think children's stories weren't ever full of violence and bloodshed? I have heard that in the earliest forms of Little Red Riding Hood ended with said girl being eaten by the Wolf (In a gory way of course.) Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt DesertPlah Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 That wouldn't surprise me. Though I do know the version of LRRH I first read had a woodsman save the day by killing the wolf. He then had to cut open the wolf to get the grandma (that may actually be a nice-ified version of the original?) Quote
