Aside from the few (or is it just the one?) quests he gives out, there's nothing there at all. I guess it's marked for him, or for a bit of flavour; you certainly cannot buy a team of giant lizards to make travelling around the caves that much quicker. In this case, it's a point of historic interest. —Alorael, who also agrees that it's the best landmark for finding the mayor, since he's usually around there and he does have quests for you.
