Fledgling Fyora NomadSoul
Hello all, I'm getting a black screen on game launch when running avernum 6 pc version bought on gamersgate.com. I noticed in task manager that cpu use for the game shoots up to 99 or 100%, which makes it something of a chore to alt-tab out and terminate the process. The funny thing is, the game worked fine the first time I launched it. Also, I had been running the demo from this site previously without issue as well (I uninstalled that prior to installing the gamersgate version). I've tried re-installing a few times, even to different hard drives, and even re-downloaded. Multiple reboots have also been tried. No fix. Still having the problem. Running the game at 1024x768 or similiar. I saw this over at the support page: Black Screen and Crash On Launch Quote: Avernum 6 is not compatible with case-sensitive hard drives or devices. If you launch the game and it shows you a black window and then crashes, try moving Avernum 6 to a non-case-sensitive location. This incompatibility is within the engine. We will look for a workaround for this problem, but we don't see a path to a full solution at this time. Unfortunately it provided no help. I've tried installing the game on two different hard drives. I'm at a complete loss here. Any help would be very much appreciated. Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
Have you tried DirectX-version of game? At start menu under Spiderweb Software/Avernum6 has links to DirectX and OpenGL versions. Does other DirectX/OpenGL games work normally? Fledgling Fyora NomadSoul
It appears there's no options in that department with the gamersgate version. Just one launch shortcut and one exe file in the game directory. Other directx games are working fine. As for opengl, well, I'm not too sure how many openGL games I have, but, FurMark - an OpenGL graphics benchmark - works fine. For the sake of curiousity I uninstalled the gamersgate version and re-installed the Avernum 6 demo downloaded from here. The avernum 6 demo from here worked without a hitch. Both the main exe and direct X exe worked fine. In both window and full screen in any resolution I tried. Interesting, but I'm still at a loss as to what to do. Understated Ur-Drakon Celtic Minstrel
You could email Jeff and give him the information with which you got it at gamersgate, and he'll (almost certainly) give you a registration code for the version obtainable from his site. He's usually pretty good at making sure people who bought the game don't lose what they paid for.
