When you choose the appropriate dialogue option at the correct sign/obelisk, and the change will be made. It should mention in the text window of the HUD that a stat has increased or something. For geneforge 4, the editor is found by clicking the sign just outside of the place where you get your first equipment. Are you sure you replaced the game file with the editor file?
