Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
So, this is odd...I couldn't get Mayor Arbuckle to give me the quest to get rid of the slimes, and now that I've gotten rid of them, he won't reward me. Did I do something wrong somehow?
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
First, did you go through all the conversational options with Mayor Arbuckle to get the slime quest? Second, are you sure you finished the Slime Quest? It doesn't finish in the Agate Tower, it finishes in the Slime Pit near Colchis. If you've done all that stuff, then I don't know what to tell you....I'm not good at editing the program to add "Stuff Done" flags. You might have to use the editor or restart the game. Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
I spoke to Mayor Arbuckle and went through all the options available when I first got to Krizan, and none of the options were about the slime quest. (One was about trying to pretend we weren't from Avernum, though I don't see why that would keep him from telling me to go on the slime quest.) And yes, I know I've solved the slime quest because I killed the Alien Slime.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
You need a certain reputation level to get the quest. I remember not getting it the first time I played the Avernum version.
Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
Oh. Drat. So, essentially, there's nothing I can do to get the reward now? Or will I retroactively get it when my reputation is high enough? (That is, I can wait till I reach the required reputation, then see if he gives the quest dialogue?) Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Yeah, you should be able to get the quest, and then the reward, if your rep is high enough.
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
That doesn't sound right, why would the a quest in the demo section of the game need a certain reputation? Unless you've done something to lower your reputation? Or maybe you didn't do some things in Upper Avernum before venturing out onto the surface. Anyways, definitely check with the mayor once your reputation goes up a few points, maybe you'll still get the quest.
Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
I did everything I could in Upper Avernum first. My reputation is 26. Luckily that should increase with no real difficulties. The required amount is probably 28 or so, given how early you can get the quest, and given how simple it is. Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Yeah, doing all the quests in Upper Avernum should be more than enough - remember there are some quests that are easy to overlook. In Fort Emergence, for example, a lady in the main cavern wants you to do something for her.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
It might be 28 to 30 range, since that sounds right. But it's been years since I played. I do remember going and doing a quick quest nearby and then getting it.
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Alright, I just opened up Avernum 3 to test this out. Mode: Easy with Standard Party with no customization. The game opens with me in the little room. I equip the weapons and go to find Animaxander. After getting the quest from him to go and explore the surface, I equipped the weapons in the storage room and went straight away to the surface. Fought the obligatory slimes that you see leaving Avernum, and then went straight to Krizsan. After telling me that his job is a nightmare, I ask him why, he tells me about the slimes and I got the quest. My reputation was level 20 (neutral) which is what you start the game with. Therefore, your reputation level is not why you didn't get the quest.
Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
Now that's truly weird. I'm going to go to him again when I get out of the Tower of Magi, and see if he gives me the quest or not. If not, I think I'll just look up the reward and add it to my party via the character editor, because if it's some sort of bug, I'm not about to go restarting my game over it. EDIT: Solberg won't teach me the spell, either. Bloody hell...
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
you've done something wrong (or walked to bug) so my suggestion is to restart and uninstalling and deleting all files related to a3 and reinstall it might be good to do. Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
Well, I went back to Mayor Arbuckle, and all of a sudden he gave me the quest, and I got the reward...I'm still confused, but I'm guessing whatever the bug was, it fixed itself. Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
lol. does Solberg sell you spells too?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
That has less to do with Arbuckle and more to do with killing slimes and telling Anaximander about it. —Alorael, who actually isn't positive. But are you sure reporting your triumph is dependent on the Empire's bureaucrats?
Garrulous Glaahk DewdropsOTG
Oh, I reported to Anaximander before heading down to the Tower of Magi. Though checking with Solberg later after I solved the roach quest let me get both spells. It seems as though I hit some odd snag, but whatever it was, as I said, it fixed itself.
