  1. To each his own, of course, but your post should serve as an option for other people who have read this thread thinking about playing these games. Additionally, one can purchase the series from this website itself.
  2. There was a big sale over on GOG a few weeks ago. The Geneforge series was something like €6. However, I did not purchase the games as I actually want my games in one repository (Steam). I don't find the DRM intrusive at all. Just load up Steam when I turn on the computer and that's that. Find it very handy when I format my computer or move around.
  3. Filters, mainly. I like customisability. Off the top of my head: - Filtering by location (town/area) - Filtering by objective (hunting/messages/fetch quests/discovery) - Filtering by importance (main quests/side quests) - Ability to hide quests from the quest list - Ability to jot down notes on each quest entry (and the ability to write down notes on the area map (perhaps not the world map))
  4. Very interesting statistics! I couldn't find the number of votes cast though. What was the sample size? Also, did you use SPSS? Those graphs look familiar.
  5. I'm pretty sure I had a bazillion hammers which I threw away when I didn't need them. As for the quest list, maybe Jeff could come up with a more structured/neater journal for the next game. Unless I'm the only person who has got a problem with it haha. Thanks!
  6. I'll ask here so that I won't have to clutter the forum with another thread: Fetch quests, such as mushroom meal - don't they ever go away? Or do I need to bring, say, 50 bags of meal for the quest to be struck off my journal? I just find a large quest list annoying. Wish I could filter it. Also, where can I find 2 hammers? I only have one! Thanks
  7. Yeah I know it's unlikely. But when I use lower resolutions everything becomes blurred and ugly. Can't find a middle ground.
  8. Support for higher resolutions. Everything is so tiny @ 1680x1059 res.
  9. Yeah they're half price. €6 for the geneforge saga. But I like steam so much that I'm willing to wait for a steam sale so that they will all be under one hub!
  10. Yeah I suppose I should have no reason to doubt that it's been installed correctly. I was wondering if there was some sort of watermark indicating "remix 1.1" or something like that.
  11. Is there any way to find out that the mod has been installed correctly? I play on steam so I pasted everything into this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Avernum Escape From the Pit\Avernum Files\Scripts

  13. Wow, thanks a lot man! You know Avernum like the back of your hand. That's seriously helpful, I appreciate it. Once I get to continue playing it (I'm on the last quest in Avadon II) I'll read everything I can and hopefully I can get back into the game like I left off yesterday.
  14. Thank you for the detailed reply! This is where I left off Avernum: I thought I'd find codex entries like in Avadon but I was mistaken.
  15. Hi all, I last played A:EftP 2 years ago and I had racked in 47 hours of playtime. I'd like to get back into the game, however I don't want to start over. I'd like to continue playing where I left. The issue is, of course, not knowing my bearings or what I'm supposed to do next. I have around 20 pending quests. So, the first course of action is going through my journal to learn the quests I was on etc. Secondly, I'd like to read some backstory to refresh my memory on what is going on in Avernum. Thirdly, and I don't know if this is possible, I'd like to read the main plotline up until the quest I'm currently on. I'll provide the quest name once I get back home. Can any help me out with the second point until I post the quest name to get feedback on the third point? Thanks very much!
  16. Thank you very much. And yeah, I had no idea it would be showing under special items. Mind protected blessing it is then.
  17. Is there a list of the effects the woman with the blessings gives you? (the one you pay 2,000 gold for each effect). I purchased a blessing but I have no idea what the benefits are.
  18. Heeded your advice on focusing on the middle columns. I'm much more capable in combat situations now! Thanks
  19. On the other hand, I try to purchase games on Steam when I can (so, most of the time). Reason being is that I want everything in one hub (the Steam application). I've also had no problems with Steam, in fact for me it's the best option out there. When I format my computer I don't need to backup anything, I just log on a freshly installed Steam application and download the games I want. That's what I did with A:EftP - stopped playing it 2 years ago, formatted my computer, and when I installed it again some 3 weeks ago I had everything backed up. Can't really have that if you buy games from all over the internet. This centralised system is very convenient.
  20. Thank you, I've already went through the stickies. I was looking for a more personalized reply, perhaps some direct tips on what you think is a good build. And sorry if I came across as rude/demanding. It isn't my intention.
  21. I run a sorceror, tinkermage and warrior (blademaster) party. My tinkermage can create 2 powerful turrets but he's weak by himself. The sorceror is strong thanks to his AoE. And the blademaster's strength varies depending on the fight. If he's surrounded he dies quickly, if there's a strong but singular opponent he can easily dispatch him. I'm looking for tips on how to spend stats and skills wisely. I have access to Fort Foresight so I can try out different builds thanks to that Eye. Thank you.
  22. Well, damn you all! I guess I'll start from the first game. The UI pushes me away a bit but then again my favourite games were all made in the 90s; many of them don't exactly have the nicest interface and animations.
