I have a melee fighter, level 23, with 14 skill points in melee. There's an archer at level 21, archer skills 12. A priest is level 22, with 9 points in bows and 21 in priest. And a mage at level 23, with 5 points in bows, 6 points in thrown missiles, and 16 in mage spells. I'm playing easy difficulty level.

I tried stripping them naked except for a weapon. . . still no damage being done. Then I stripped away every single thing, including weapons, and still no damage being done. This is my second playthrough and I don't remember having this problem before.

I've been at it for 40 minutes this go around and still just beating on each other round after round. There's very little damage being done to anyone. . . most of the text says things like missile misses, or character x misses. . . Very aggravating.

Well, I'll try again, but no one is getting much damage. . . guess I could take off some armor or something.

I have devoted 35 minutes to this portion of the soultaker quest without ever breaking out of the cycle of possession, beating that one, possession, beaing that on, rinse and repeat ad infinitum. What does it take to break out of the cycle?

I'm trying to clean up my quest list and realized I hadn't done Mother Alice's quest to scout out the western rapids. I'm having trouble finding the right place. I thought it was the pair of islands separated by a rock-lined passage. . . a group of nephil are camped on the northern one and an ogre was on the southern one. After killing the ogre, I got a message about viability of that channel for an invading force, but I get no message on the northern island except threats from the nephil. Those stops don't satisfy Mother Alice, however. Where should I be looking?

Here I am replaying A5 almost a year later and still having trouble finding the way into the east tower for Dionicio's quest. On the outer east wall I can see a switch, but no way to access it. Probably missing something very obvious. . . Duh. . . answered my own question again. .

I found the pylons for Malachite's stealth quest, touched each of them in order and got the messages saying I had touched them. After the 3rd one, the message said I had touched all three, but Malachite doesn't say anything about my having done so. Where's the problem ? Again I feel like a dunce. . . I was not actually talking to Malachite. . . so it's all good now. :blush:

Thanks for the tips about Tobias. . . I did stumble across the last one finally. I have tried piercing crystals with no success. I'll go back to Lark and see about buying unlock doors.

I have two questions regarding Avernum 5: 1. I can't find the 3rd Tobias mine site. I've wandered the area repeatedly and done pretty much everything else. 2. There are doors that say a spell is needed to open. What spell is that and how do I get it? My priest is level 12 and the mage is 13. Thanks!

I finished with Rentar in the western wastes and have killed the shades in Silvar and Blosk. But when I got to Dharmon, the people are still angry, but the shade isn't there. I thought it was there all the time, being protected. . . but I've made several trips in and out nonetheless, but with no luck. Did I do something out of sequence? I just spoke to the Dharmon mayor and told her I killed the shade and she agreed to help Gnass, but Coralea keeps telling me to kill all the shades. ???

Yes, it's a major PITA. . . don't know if that's a real acronym or if I made it up, but you get the idea. :-/

I have been replaying A4 after a couple of years and am now trying to get to Rentar's whatever-her-name-is keep. I well remember how I hated all those pylons, and I am struggling with them again. I can't figure out how to sneak past them and smashing them is nearly impossible. I need more help!

Yes, and then it says I'm in combat mode, but I'm not able to actually attack. The character continues to have a blue circle around it, rather than a red, and I can't use any weapons or spells on it.

I have tried many times to attack a character who is not currently an enemy, but just get a message saying I can't talk while in combat mode. The next statement about clicking combat again and choosing a character just doesn't work. What am I missing?
