You've talked me into it. As soon as I finish my current replay of G2 I'm going to commit to Nethergate.

I'm using the demo downloaded from this website. I basically am drawn to the story over the graphics, so maybe I need to just say to myself I'm going to put a couple of hours into the game no matter what. Maybe I will get used to the graphics after a while.
That said, I had a similar experience with Ultima VII. Everyone talked about what a wonderful game it was, but the screen was just so basic I couldn't handle it. And, not to mention that in the very beginning of the game the Avatar runs into an old buddy who absolutely plasters himself to your backside. It looked like we were performing an unnatural act! I laughed for quite a while, but had trouble taking the game at all seriously after that.... -
I have played Avernum:EftP, Avernum 4-6, Genefore 1-5 and Avadon. So, I obviously love Jeff's games. I have tried a couple of times to play Nethergate, but the interface is just so primitive that I can't get more than a half an hour in before I give up. Somehow the feel of the game doesn't work for me even though I really want it to....

It is truly amazing how well Jeff's stories translate to the iPad. The games lose nothing in the translation. I do think it helps if you have a capacitive pen. It is more accurate in hitting tiny spots than my chubby finger is....

Here's one example - probably caused by my giving the same names to the party members in both games. My main fighter (aka Tank) was in need of improved sword skills in one game, but not in the other. As you can guess, when I leveled up I messed up because I wasn't thinking about which game had which needs. Also, I didn't realize the problem until I had overwritten my backup. My fault totally of course.....

I was playing Avernum:EotP on my iPad and Avadon on my Mac at the same time. Not a good idea. There are just enough similarities to throw you off your game (pardon the pun).
-
The first time I played the game I was so lost when I walked into the dark that I went a few steps, turned around and walked all the way back out. If you do that you can see where you were in the dark on your map. That can help keep you oriented, but it makes for a longer quest....

I have played it on both the iPad 2 and the "new" iPad. It works really well on both boxes. -
The game plays just great on the iPad, doesn't it? And, best of all, it is just a terrific game on any platform.

Could you answer a question about going single player? Since increasing skills changes at level 30 from every time to every fifth time, doesn't that make it hard to get strong enough for the end-game?

I had the same problem with the iPad version of Avadon. It can be frustrating to deal with. One thing that helps a lot is using a capacative pen rather than your fingers. You can get them at places like Amazon, Verizon, etc. I carry one with me all the time..... -
This might have been discussed before, but what is the difference in a Sage's Rod and a Mage's Staff? Nathalie has the Rod, and we just found the Staff. However, she can't equip it. Nor can she equip the Staff of Recovery.

Thank you so much - I'm on my way! -
I need to get the circlet before I can deal with Sulfras. However, I'm afraid I might be toast on that score.
I know where the circlet is held, but I can't open the chest it is in. My problem is that I can't find Scab - I've already fought all three battles in the Arena and they won't let me go in again. Scab isn't wandering around the town, so I don't know what to do now.

I can empathize with your "running out of thorns" problem. When I played G2 I got all the way to the end when I realized that because I was totally dependent on my baton, I was going to have to start over from the beginning. I had used up all of the reapers and submission thorns in the game before I got to the toughest enemies. I certainly learned a lesson about carrying weapons that require ammunition..........

I liked the first chapter of your book - it grabbed my interest immediately.
Also, the nice thing about a wanna-be Trakovite is that it places the hero in the middle of everything. He has numerous options and decisions in front of him - especially if you put "shaping is necessary" into the mix. Sounds like a good concept.

I'm curious about the apparent differences in the PC and Mac versions. Any idea why? And, are you aware of any other differences in the Geneforge series? -
I like yours too....

I normally prefer playing solo, so my experience with creations is somewhat limited.
That said, when I first played G1 I kept two fyoras alive from day 1 through to the end. It was a pill to keep re-loading whenever one of them went down, but they were amazingly powerful by the end of the game.
I tried to do the same with G2, but the fyoras had been rebalanced and it was not possible. It looks to me like the best combo might vary by game?

Thanks so much - that worked great!

I need some help with my avatar. I have an 80x80 pixel picture on ImageShack. I take the option of "URL for forums" and I get the code for my picture. It is shown here, so obviously I have a legitimate URL.
When I paste that URL into the slot on my profile page and click "Submit" I get an error message saying "Invalid picture type."
There is a second URL for forums which does the exact same thing.
Any ideas?

Oh yes, I met Taygen. It was visceral and instant hatred. Aren't role-playing games wonderful?
-
WARNING - BIG SPOILERS AHEAD!
The Shapers won. If Ghaldring had been willing to stay in the east he might have survived. But, he brought on his own demise by being greedy.
Terrestria was divided into two parts, with the rebels controlling the east and the Shapers controlling the west. In the beginning everyone was afraid of the power of shaping, but that seemed to be changing as time rolled by.
Rawal became the head of the council, and Taygen went back to the desert where he became even more deranged. Astoria was never fully trusted by the rest of the Shapers because of her support of the rebels. Alwin died a few days after the truce was approved because he couldn't accept sharing power with the rebels.
Our hero(ine) made a decent live for his/her self despite being basically a "half-breed" who never actually uncovered the truth about his/her past.

I just finished the game and must say that Jeff did a fantastic job in creating the world of Geneforge. It has been a blast!
I might go back in a bit and replay because I messed up my faction. Wanted to be a Trakovite, but I dumped the Purity Agent before getting that quest. So, I switched to Astoria and had a great time with the ending battle.
A:EftP - two frenzied drakes
in Avernum Trilogy (2011-2018 Remastered Versions)

I had the same problem with the frenzied drakes as bumbumpanks did. I would do some leveling up and go back to try again. It took me quite a while to be able to take those dudes out.....
