  1. When I have a chance, I'll try and counter Nikki's viewpoint that UKIP are inherently racist, that proportional representation is better that FPTP and that Scotland and England should stay together. Have a look at this article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/election...-observers.html Britain has lots and lots and lots of problems now. A voting system that is conducted on the ideals of trust, is being manipulated by those who have been raised more in a culture based on group self interest. Corruption in elections, that took us over a hundred years of reforms to stamp out, is coming back with a vengence. There was a fair amount of vote fraud in this election, especially with regards to postal votes. If that is not tackled before bringing in a system of proportional representation, those that currently abuse the system will profit even more than they currently do.
  2. Based on the results, it now seems sensible for Scotland and England to go their separate ways. That makes me sad.
  3. Is the Tea Party linked to Pat Buchanon?
  4. Ha I know. If I got my way, I'd chop all the forests down, hire some Battle Betas to move all the sticks to one zone to get a stick monopoly, hire a couple of serviles to sell the things, and call the thing Boggle's Lumber. That'd put an end to me selling flawed crystals for 5 coin a pop.
  5. Thanks I found a stick. The point was that although my character is a mini-god, he still has trouble with the most basic things, things that even I can manage. Finding sticks Walking in a straight line. He is also very anti-social. I've been in to many inns with him, but never once has he ever shown the slightest desire to have a few beers and just chat about football. Even Frodo got drunk every once in a while. He doesn't even have a desire to make some coin from arm-wrestling, which I'm sure he'd do pretty well at.
  6. My shaper is a city boy. He's got a recipe for a wand. involves a gemstone, something exotic, and a stick. The gemstone he bought from the jewellry shop. Something exotic form the expensive exotic ingredients shop. But there are no stick shops. Armed with sharp blades and a mind full of spells he set off, on his friend's advice, in to the woods. Past the trees. No sticks here. Past the random javelins, nope no sticks here either, and in to the next zone past more trees and javelins. But not a single stick. So he's just called his mate up to tell him that it is not April Fool's today, so it was unfair of him to play this prank on him. It was silly of him to believe him anyway, if there were sticks in the woods they would be called the sticks not the woods. My shaper is not good at lateral thinking. Sword + Tree = stick pile Spell + Tree = stick pile. Javelin + Two Hands + One Knee = two sticks. Hopefully a stick shop will open soon
  7. Ah. Caught by the factual correctness police.
  8. what is bad taste in games?
  9. It would be even more playable if there was a wingbolt canister somewhere in there

Unscrollable and uncomfortable inventory. Tiny buttons for statictics access. Horrible screen scrolling. Doesnt center screen on creature when i want, but centers when i DONT want it to. And to top it off combat switch is on the "f" button, what ?!? I barely have time to find and push the stupid button when every enemy rushes at me, and the screen is too small to notice enemies beforehand. you get used to it after about 10 zones. I found the enemies much more stupid than in later games, they take ages to attack. inventory- manage it, dont take too many items. Quote: Arrrgh ! Please, someone, tell me that later Geneforge games have better interface, i spend as much time battling controls as i spend fighting monsters in this game. I mean, this game was made 1 year AFTER Avernum 1, and in Avernum interface was archaic, but functional. Geneforge interface is just incredibly bad. They have better interfaces, the writing is better, the spells are better, the creations are better, the equipment is better, the graphics and gameplay are all bettr. Geneforge 1 has the best story. And it is the only one to really have an unexpected mini story in it (the secret), although you could argue that the Trakovites are a mini story, i don't know. I think it was designed without sequels in mind. I get a much more complete feeling from the game than the other ones.
  11. Quote: boggle: Have you read any of Harry Turtledove's alternative history books? He has some books where the nazis won the war. His books are addictive and fun without requiring too much brain power... kinda has harry potter-ish feeling to them because you keep turning pages after pages without being able to stop. No, never read any of those, I'm afraid. The only other nazi alternative history I have read is Fatherland, by Robert Harris, which is a chunky page turner. I try not to read too many alternative Nazi things, as I know all that will happen is that i'll blurt something amusing out if i happen to see some Germans the next day...
  12. If you're worried about 1984 being a little too intelligent, it might be a good idea to have something light and easy like the Redwall series to read afterwards. I read books that you'd class as intelligent, mainly because they tend to be shorter, and so get read quicker! I can't remember exactly but The Man in the High Castle will be easier than 1984, but not sure by how much. It's about an alternate history where the Nazis won the war and invaded America. wait, it won the Hugo award: http://www.philipkdick.com/works_novels_mancastle.html Has any one said Dune yet?

    Thank You Diki!

This lurker bids Dikiyoba farewell, and congrats on a job well done; and also wonders "who will be the next one to pick up the poisoned chalice?"
  14. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Philip K Dick yet. I'd say the Man in the High Castle is my favourite of his. Also i'd say that it is debatable that it is debatable whether Brave New World is a dystopian society or not. I'm guessing the person who said that never finished the book. and 1984 is still relevant now, much more relevant, some people would argue, than you could possibly imagine. As my humble leader has proclaimed, "a future fair for all." which of course leads us on to animal farm.
  15. I'd look him dead in the eye, and say, a few holes in the wall, how is that not normal wear and tear?
  16. I want this as well. If I was very clever and had oodles of time, I would fork the code of ufoai. That way I'd get to play geneforge in full 3d as well! Or an easier way would be to make a Geneforge Morrowind mod. Of course it would be real time, instead of turn based, and no zones, and only disposable creations, but may be good fun.
  17. Little Big Adventure! Syndicate? Syndicate Wars?
  18. x-com is one of my favourite games. be sure to try the open source remake ufoai http://ufoai.sourceforge.net/ after getting over the initial disorientation of the 3d view, really really quite good. whenever i play it i always think, if only geneforge was 3d! if you are brave you can compile the latest development version, as the main version is 2 years out of date now. it isn't too hard. has anyone said morrowind yet? p.s. morrowind is loads better than oblivion
  19. stupid me. forgot about that. podlings with essence orbs.... that sounds like a torment challenge to me
  20. been playing through g5, the shocking rain really is, um, quite, um, shocking... shockingly bad. how easy is it to swop it out for essence orbs.
  21. Quote: The wiener sausages that make up hotdogs are actually just one end of a sausage continuum that stretches smoothly all the way to the short, fat, chunkier Italian kind of thing. Something that is really popular in england is the sausage butty, put some sausages between two hunks of bread, add condiment, ta da! Is a long fat european sausage in a wholemeal roll still a hotdog, or just frankenstein's sausage brother? When i lived in america, it wasn't for terribly long, but the only good hotdog i had was at a baseball game. But that was more to do with how boring i find baseball, my growling stomach furnace, and the size of the hotdog itself! I'm sure you could pack a lot of flavour in to a meaty tube, no pun intended, and what surprises me is the lack of good quality hotdogs in many places, the feeble wiener is surprising popular! a cheeseburger from mcdonalds, and a cheeseburger from tgi fridays, both cheeseburgers, but i bet the one from tgi fridays would never take mcburger back home to meet the parents... i guess bread is really important, i hate white sugary bread, it seems really popular in the states though, or maybe just a decision of cost conscious hotdog sellers.
  22. well a hotdog is the marriage of a sausage with a bap.
  23. Not sure i've ever had a danish one, i'll have to keep my eyes peeled. but i love swedish hotdogs, big fat herby sausages, great. wow randomizer, it seems that you are the hotdawg king! did the company grind the competitor in to the dirt?
