  2. Also Edward Bernays - not exactly a psychologist but led the way in building the consumer society we live in using psychological techniques.
  3. Are there any dinosaurs that have non-terrifying names? Mouseyadon, or trichocatops perhaps?
  4. The Glass Bead Game by Herman Hesse. Excellence as usual from big Hermie.

  6. Since you mentioned the crappy bows in this game, your Nephilim get free Throwing Weapons skill. Javelins do way more damage early game and you find them pretty much everywhere as pick-ups. They become kind of redundant later in the game.
  7. Someone else could confirm this but I think increasing Mage/Priest skill also makes spells more effective. A character with only 1pt in a discipline - say, to have Bolt of Fire or Minor Heal - would benefit from purchasing extra pts. Don't quote me on this tho'.
  8. I agree with your perspective, Krata. The more complex the financial system becomes, the larger the regulatory system needs to be to monitor what is happening. Big business = big Government. Corruption is the cancer of society - whether it be corporate, political or institutional
  9. Hey SC. The illusion of radio is that millions of people could be listening - if I'm currently your only listener then I don't want you to tell me.

I've dreamed this occasionally in recent years tho' the dream setting is a building that is under construction. Makes me shake just thinking about it.

  14. btw a wonderful doco called The Power of Nightmares follows the conservative movement in the US and the rise of the NeoCon, and parallels this with the Fundamental Islamist movement since the 1960's. It's available to watch online for those interested tho' it's quite lengthy.
  15. The Republican platform for the last 2 years has seemingly been about obstructionism. When details of the first Obama stimulus package was being announced a curious piece was singled out by the GOP - that being the distribution of free contraception to low income earners. If this isn't a truly clever and effective piece of anti-abortion policy then I don't know what is. Actively seeking to reduce the amount of unwanted pregnancies is surely win-win. Conservatives made a fuss and it was, sadly, canned. Just one example. Another clever piece of maneuvering by the GOP was to distance itself from the calamitous Bush II era. The national debt and financial crisis (among a long list) were a product of W's watch as was the squeezing of publicly funded institutions to feed his buddies operating the military machine. Tea partyists in particular want this all fixed yesterday but don't seem to be prepared to pay for it. One can't have it both ways.

  19. Verbal abuse is easily the most effective punishment for children and has a residual effect that punishes the child long after he or she has passed childhood.
  20. What she read shocked her - how could her father propose such a thing with so much at stake!
  21. On her guard in an instant her feet gripped the cold stone floor, weapon in hand and heart in her mouth she rapidly assessed the unthinkable scene revealing itself as her eyes adjusted to the pale pre-dawn light.

I reckon goblins aren't buying any of Jeff's games anyway, since Jeff pretty much burned that bridge when he put in all those smash-the-goblins job board quests. So, forget 'em. You're good. Thanks SoT. I don't think the goblins would mind too much - they seem to equally love smashing adventurers.
