  1. Okay, so I just finished A4 and am hip-deep in A5 (Solberg's lands, actually). I've met Gladwell and encountered Ruth. I'm wondering: is it necessary to pick any of these sides, and, more importantly, am I missing out on any good loot if I do? Strangely enough, I'm not a "can I do this on torment as a singleton"-kind of player. I'm a finisher. And I feel I may be missing something. Oh, if possible, I've tried to be pro-Avernum independence, or at least the Empress's view ... Thanks in advance! MissSea
  2. Sorry, I'm not that far into the game, so I didn't know Summer's guarding another crystal. It's just outside of Harkin's Landing. I've defeated the bandits just south of the entrance, then battled some slimes to come out near Summer. He asks me to place my hands on the crystal. A Vahnavoi pops out, then eventually kicks out some shades. Thanks again!

Hmmm ... I may have to invest. But I'm really getting depressed playing this game. I mean, I kill the folks who are making trouble for Avernites, and I get no respect! Plus, I am SO FREAKING TIRED of getting drawn into traps. I'm seriously starting to rethink this whole "morality" thing and just pulverize the entire Northern Frontier ...
  4. Is there a way to defeat this guy? 'Cause my party's getting its proverbial butt kicked, and I've ... well ... enhanced my party members something fierce. Lightening Spray, Repel Spirit -- they just irritate it. Thanks! MissSea

    Big Fish Games

I figured as much. I purchased A5 the other day -- a rather strange switch, since A4 was my first experience as a player. I don't like being a soldier ...

Any future plans to release any more games on Big Fish? I really enjoyed A4 ... Thanks, MissSea
  7. Thanks for that, Earth Empires! @Randomizer: Your information was correct -- sorry about the mix-up!
  8. Wow ... that's good to know. I was killing myself trying to open them up!
  9. Yup. I've tested the egg, killed his failed experiment. I haven't gotten training by him yet -- saving up for later.
  10. Okay, in the Tower of the Magi, if you go up the east stairs, there's a gate, and beyond it, you can see a set of research notes. How do you open that gate? I've tried tripping the other gate mechanisms, hoping this one would trip as well. No such luck. Is there anything beyond this gate? Is it just Jeff teasing us? Also, how do I get the doors above X to open? I gained access to one door, but the other two say I don't have a key, I can't use magic, and the locks are unable to be picked. What, if anything, is behind these doors? Of note, I have Dispel Barrier, as I've beaten the demon. Thanks! MissSea
  11. Thank you, thank you! I'll forever praise the names of Thuryl and Randomizer. MissSea FYI, Randomizer -- that's a negatory on the S-Man offering up a key. Maybe it's a different mage ... also, why the need for a magic barrier as well as the drake?
  12. Okay, so I thought I was out of the woods with the Unlock Door thing, but I'm still running into issues. I've defeated the drake guarding Athlon's lair, and I can't open the door (level 28 needed). I'm going nuts here without having the formula to calculate how far I'm away from the required tool use/unlock door spell strength. Could anyone please post the formula? FYI, the link in Strategy Central regarding this matter is kaput. Also, as mentioned earlier, I bought A4 from Big Fish -- no handy PDF with hints/tricks/tips. Thanks! MissSea
  13. Thanks, folks -- I made that mistake about the mage/priest thing. I've been so busy building my mage's ... well ... mage levels, so I figured I'd use my priest for the Tool Use bit. Oops. I checked out Schrodinger's guide, too ... it seems the door I want to get past is filled with bum stuff anyway (Ft. Dranlon), so I'm going to not stress so much. @Zuljin: I bought A4 from Big Fish -- no PDF file found. But I'll check out Strategy Central for more info! Thanks, MissSea
  14. I know this is posted to Strategy Central for Avernum 4, but the link says there's an Internal Error. Could someone sum up for me (in 200 words or less) how it works 'cause I've been giving my priest Tool Use, but his Priest Skill is still low ... I can't open my 25 doors ... Thanks, MissSea
  15. Actually, no ... I think my problem was after killing Yong-Mi, I forgot to turn off the combat mode before leaving her area. Hence, I ran into the guard and fisherman with guns blazing. I did go back to an earlier save and after killing her the second time, I just went out the door. I'm still confused as to why there's a door when the other side is open, but it worked out for me! Thanks for all the help. The cheat I'll keep in a back pocket until needed. MissSea
  16. I just completed the quest to kill Quickshank in Cotra. I told Anga-whoever, who said Yong-Mi needed to be ... well ... taken care of. I did this. Now the fisherpeople and the guards keep attacking me. I killed the one guard and the fisherman, then I tried to enter Cotra from another entrance. Now the guard is attacking me! I don't want everyone in Cotra to attack, but I'm having some difficulties here. Thanks! MissSea
  17. Hi there! New to this game -- LOVE IT! I made a (tiny) mistake in defeating the necromancer in the Haunted Mines and used up two piercing crystals on accident. Not realizing their value, I went ahead with the game. Now I'm trying to rob Giscard blind, but he's got a magical barrier up. Is there somewhere else (besides Grindstone) that sells piercing crystals? Is it necessary to use any prior to getting dispel barrier (i.e. I need to complete a quest to move forward from Formello)? Thanks! MissSea
