  1. Perikalia Orchards, south of Perikalia, leads south to the Dera Bridge. From there you can head east to the Zepyr Oasis, capital city of the region, and home to Sage Taygen.
  2. I think there's no way to avoid the hostility with a sabotage: I was as sneaky as it's possible to be, and no guards saw me, but Zephyr Oasis was still hostile after I sabotaged the crystal. I'd thought it was supposed to be possible *not* to spark the hostility, but I swear I was smooth as silk and as noticeable as a shadow at midnight...
  3. toggle_quest(64,3); maybe? mind you I'm still relatively clueless on the scripts; he shouldn't change anything until someone more clueful verifies it.
  4. Hmm, just checked back in my walkthrough : the only reward for the quest was reputation, but letting litalia know you're done with it should get you Repository Key D and the Canister Cache quest. If you have the key and quest, you're fine, but if you can't get those conversation options, the quest chain is broken.
  5. Uber I'd say you want to be mid- to high-forties if this is your first time through. Have you really done all the rest of the game? Try some optionals, like lost dera vault? I've been through as an agent with a high-level drayk (who'd been with me forever) and two kyshakks, but obviously shaping builds would want more critters. IMHO you don't need to put essence into your creatures' stats, except the two points in intelligence (unless you're going with randomizer's shaper strategy, in which case you don't even need those!) Then again, I suppose it depends on how old the critters are: new beasties aren't nearly as strong as those who've been with you a while.
  6. Maybe I've played too many tabletop rpgs, but the Astoria/Alwan debate made me stop thinking in terms of ethics and start thinking in terms of alignment. Alwan is lawful neutral: to him the law is its own end. I don't know that I find that to be "ethical" in the traditional sense, but it is at least principled and coherent. Ghaldring is chaotic -- Click to reveal.. he attacks people he's invited to be his guest -- and power-hungry; I almost think I'd peg him as chaotic evil. If most of us find "ethical" to mean neutral good (or chaotic good?), I suspect Astoria is the closest faction leader to provide an ethical fit?
  7. Quote: He's probably just trying to decide whether you're still fresh enough to eat, y'know. /cries No! Not fred! I think I *would* feel a little fake-moral twinge in absorbing one of my creations, and I very rarely have done so. In earlier versions this moral twinge made for good gameplay, because older creations were so much more powerful than newer ones; the difference doesn't seem so large in G5. But then, I always felt an odd moral twinge in World of Warcraft when asked to kill Eleks for their tusks, so maybe I'm just an odd role-player...
  8. Quote: i killed a fyora in the area just east of the town that is to the right of the shaper guy's home The shrouded fyora in the promenade is only one of the three shrouded rogues you need to kill for the "shrouded rogues" quest; kill the other two, also in the promenade, for that quest. The "mad, flaming fyora" is a different quest, and the presence-fyora is yet a third quest.
  9. Quote: Since Monolith is a Trakovite, that could very easily mess up the game even more Sorry, it was a bad mis-type: I meant to suggest iloverebels.
  10. Quote: the number for mechanics and leadership has not changed. 20 for leadership and 21 for mechanics, methinks. It's not hard to guess the variable names when you know some of the values.
  11. Isn't pleaselikeme the Geneforge 4 cheat? Did you try ihaterebels? I'm still not sure that will be enough, but it's worth a shot.
  12. Quote: In general, though, walkthroughs include guides. Fair enough: I'm certainly including minor tactics, like "mindshield aura's a good idea here," or "use the niche as a hiding place." But I certainly wasn't planning on replicating all the good guides listed in strategy central! /hugs a servile
  13. Quote: maybe when I beat my Trakovite game I'll do a walkthrough for Rebel. It's probably better not to duplicate effort, but rather to work to build up the knowledge base.
  14. Oh, I wasn't going to do a guide: the walkthrough is quite enough work!
  15. Thanks -- I appreciate your willingness to answer Silly Scripting Questions Just being able to verify leadership and mechanics requirements help a lot with writing the walkthrough.
  16. nope, not familiar with blades scripting, but knowing the value helps me figure out what the bits must be. I'm guessing get_stat(20) queries leadership. Is gf(x,y) a faction query? Thanks much!
  17. Oh, I see! So, um, I know that twixx requires leadership 5 to calm, and I'm looking at z1twixx.txt... I can see that he paces (does he?) and attacks and talks, but I can't see the leadership requirement? Is there a help file or forum post I should look at to tell me what the various talkmodes are, or what the not-so-obvious variables mean? Thanks again! Incidently, who_shot_me is a great variable name.
  18. Quote: level 45 or 46 I think...but there are still some opponents that are really really tough without creations, e.g. Talis-Eye. Oh, *thank you* for that: Talis-eye is so entirely kicking my level-31 butt, and I was feeling like I should be able to take him. I feel better now.
  19. I've seen y'all refering to scripts in your posts, but I'm pretty much clueless as to how to run scripts in Geneforge. Is this something one can do at the [D] prompt? Are there scripts I could use to query mechanics or leadership requirements for certain tasks? (Mines echo their requirement when you don't meet it, but not when your skill is adequate!)
  20. I've done quite a bit more work on the walkthrough. I may have made enough progress on the walkthrough now that I'll probably stay ahead of anyone wishing to try it, unless you're the sort of person who games without sleeping. I'd very much appreciate it if a few folks would check up on me the next time you start a new Astoria-faction character (or if you want to help fill in bits for other factions!) I'd especially like to know: • Did I get the skill requirements right, and can you fill in any of the ?s ? • Did I miss any quests, or get them wrong? Is anything unclear? • Did I miss any reputation encounters, or add any that weren't there? Thanks!
  21. Bah, looking at the great work some of y'all have done with strategy, I'm not sure this will be useful to anyone, but I've started to create an area-by-area walkthrough for the game. Any corrections/additions/help would be welcome. For the moment it's only at http://jlsgaladriel.livejournal.com/165163.html ; let me know, too, if this sort of format is a useful thing for you!
