  1. Bernard [south Rising Road] needs a Steel Breastplate to make the Shaped Breastplate. Can anyone suggest how much further i have to go to find one?

Thus only seven or so 'hard points' need to be reached in each skill. 2) I don't think the Shaped Breastplate is all that exciting. Long before getting it the character should already have the Crystalline Plate which has equal armor value and also provides Acid & Energy Resistance.
  3. Back to Geneforge: i definitely agree with Nioca. For me, a close second has to be any of the crystal mine areas. I really loathe the Shades and the way they steal my action points.
  4. Just as a follow up, the key for me was arriving at the Loyalist Encampment and getting the training from Kima. When i came back with Steel Skin and Strong Daze i was able to collect the last two fangs in a single battle.
  5. This is stumping me, too. I've got the 3-Fang Bracelet, but #4 [the Experimental Glaahk] is kicking my butt. At what level are you all successful in taking this one down? MattP's walkthrough mentions completing the bracelet with a 16th level Agent, yet my Agent is nearly twice that [28th]. The Huge Roamer and I miss far too often against this one, and in return it hits too often. What skill do i need to develop to hit it consistently?

That's why when i traded up from the Shielding Knife to the Shaped Blade i had store most of my Living Tools back in the house. I also sell off some food items if i accumulate a bunch.
  7. There are two levers in this area, one near each spawner. Yet after moving both levers, there's still a door i can't get open. It's an automatic door in the North East corner. I didn't think automatic doors took a key, so how do i get in?

  10. I haven't yet made it through all the games of each series, but from what i've seen i like Avernum better than Geneforge for nitpicky reasons of mechanics: #1) It is a PITA to have to make multiple trips to properly loot an area, because only one character can carry stuff. Why can't Shapers make some sort of pack mule type creation? #2) Geneforge does not tell you the value of an item until *after* you have hauled it to the store. Avernum lets you know before you pick it up. #3) I intensely dislike the artificial limitations on how much money the stores have to trade for your loot. Once the store has given you their alloted sum of money, it never ever gets any more. On top of that, whichever faction you've joined is stamped on your forehead. Thus even if they have money you may not get it. #4) If i keep getting smacked down by a certain enemy, i appreciate the option of temporarily giving myself a boost in the editor. Here again, the Avernum games stand head and shoulders above the Geneforge games. Not only is the Avernum editor built in as opposed to a third party hack, but it covers much more than just character stats. #5) I would have to say it appears that Mr. Vogel himself likes Avernum better than Geneforge. Why else is it that in Avernum you can get a full selection of avatars [choice of gender and race] for each character class, but in Geneforge your avatar is fixed for each class?
  11. Thanks. I find it interesting that my Mac has a three button mouse, and right click had yielded nothing. Control clicking did the trick.
  12. Sorry, but i don't have any good news for you. The standard advice is wait until further along in the game [perhaps Zhass-Uss?] before committing to a faction. However, you might be able to swing over to the Barzite faction if you haven't damaged the Radiant College. To do this you will need Leadership of 10 or a generally anti-servile opinion. To change their opinion of you either go back to all major NPCs you've met and talk down about serviles, or use the 'ihateserviles' cheat code. Oh, wait there are a few minor shopkeepers nearby - Braan in the Crags will open his shop [720$] if you bring back his servile from the Crystal Cavern, and Lindian in the Marsh Crossroads has 850$. Edit: i see two of you jumped in with replies while i was still composing mine. You guys are fast! At risk of starting some sort of flame war, dealing with loot really makes Avernum shine over Geneforge. Not only does Geneforge have arbitrary limitations on the selling of loot, but you are limited to taking out what a single person can carry. You would think that Shapers could come up with some sort of packmule type creation...
  13. So it seems like Geneforge 2 isn't covered as well as the others? So far all i've found is blueman00's creation guide and Matt P's walkthrough. However, this walkthrough never discusses the stats of the items, so i've been using the equipment chapter of his G1 walkthrough and just hoping that the numbers didn't change too much between versions. Now i'm starting to run into items that don't exist in G1, like the 'Infiltrator Vest' and 'Crystal Woven Chitin'. To get to the point, i can readily see the change in armor class when i switch from, say, the Iron Breastplate to the woven chitin. I just don't know what [if any] other bonuses the woven chitin may have. How do i determine that?
  14. Just to clarify: on level three, the lever to the NE opens the door to access stairs to the fourth level. However, you can also take the secret door in the room of desks. On level four, the lever to the NE toggles the other portcullis to those stair so you can leave. I think, though, that you can't move that one until you've taken the other stairs all the way down to get the Ivory Key.
  15. I browsed all four of the wikis listed in the top post. In all honesty, i did not find a single useful piece of information in any of them. By useful, i mean [for example] which NPCs are linked to which quests, or how about a list of common equipment found lying around - including weight, resale value, and which ones have in-game use. You know, things that aren't in the FAQ but still might benefit a new player. I've contributed to wikis in the past, and i surely would contribute here if i knew the relevant information. Back to the topic at hand, somebody builds a wiki partly to inform others and partly to amuse themselves. It is this second part that doesn't respond well to being told what to do. Since [iMHO] the above wikis are not particularly informative, i think the only reason they exist is to satisfy the writer's amusement. So there it is. I didn't come to this forum with the intention of raining on anybody's parade, and i apologize in advance if my comments upset you.
  16. Okeh, i'm totally stumped here. I got to the Lava Dome looking for the Mica Tome. I've followed the trail of clues until i found out that he doesn't like fish. By now my Mage has mapped the spiral leading out from the Hordling area - but i can't see how to get there. It's not a normal secret door, and Move Mountains had no effect. Can somebody give me a hint as to what to do with the fish clue?
  17. Never mind, it all became clear after i talked to Fraitus.
  18. Okeh, this one has me stumped. From the easternmost Guest Room [sE corner of the fort] there appears to be a secret passage on the south wall, leading to some stairs? The room is called the Dusty Bedroom. However, walking into this wall accomplishes nothing, and Move Mountains L2 doesn't open it up, either. Do i just need to wait until i get L3, or is something else going on?
