Lion does not come on a disc. You can purchase a USB installer or make your own with a thumb drive and the downloadable installer.

Apple is reportedly not going to release a thumb drive for any future OSs, including 10.8. Any formatting of the hard drive would require an internet connection and contact with the App Store. This is only really a problem if you have to completely replace your hard drive, as you will no longer have a recovery partition through which you can download the OS. So anyone not living near an Apple store would be greatly inconvenienced.
  2. I do own a pare of Birkenstock sandals, but that's it. And I don't wear them frequently, mostly just when the tile floors are killing my feet or I'm in a rush. I never wore them to school, and if I'm just going outside, I'd rather go barefoot unless it just rained.

Hmph, I guess I'm just a grumpy old man. Looking logically at complaints has been my downfall since, well, always.

I think part of the issue I took with 10.7 was that it feels like more any more of the utilities (Launch Pad, I'm looking at you!) feel more like iOS that a traditional computer setup. I prefer a clear line between mobile and desktop computing. That said, after the initial changing over, I've found Lion to be pretty good, except for the whole "no external boot agent. If you hard drive gets messed up, you have to take it to the store to get it fixed."

Why Lion? Yeah, it's got a bunch of cool new features, but it also cuts down on the ability of the user to do stuff other than what Apple intended. I've gotten used to it now, but when I first got it, I would have preferred to downgrade to Snow Leopard.

PTC? I have a vial of test strips about a foot away from me, actually.

But surely you accept the idea that water crystals are influenced by music.

Has this one ever been scientifically tested? I mean, certain frequencies of sound cause things to resonate and all that, who's to say this one isn't scientifically possible?

2010 Doctor Who Christmas special, anyone?

    And the physicist strikes again...

Look for a bit longer, making sure you keep your focus on the dot. Then, look at a clean, white surface and blink rapidly.

For that reason, I no longer use papyrus. It was great 5 years ago, but then it became so overused that it is almost taboo now.

I generally stick with Times (New Roman) for any sort of paper writing, but I'll switch it up to whatever looks good in the context of something more artistic.
  10. Niemand? Who's that? I don't see his name anywhere on the top posters list, so he must be unimportant.

Congrats, Rowen. At your post rate, you must celebrate all the limestones you get.

Back in the "special characters" thread in general, the mods informed us that html characters work in PDNs but not posts, unless a mod turns them on for you.
