  1. Eph, don't you have the CD? Or did you just get it digitally? Because if you have the CD (or anything with a BoA demo on it), it should be in there. Or you could download it again.

A bit irrelevant right now, but I'm just sayin'.

  2. Oooh… ninja-druid… tongue

Truthfully, I had already pretty much dissected the BoA Docs before even knowing about Westra's Cookbook. When I looked at that, I'd hoped to find something new. When I didn't, I sort of just didn't look at it anymore. I imagine there are things in it that could be updated though, right?

Oh… wow… that's pretty low. What kind of a d-bag does something like that? Especially when they stand to gain NOTHING?

I don't recall Shaynee, but the name immediately made me think of Bigail's capital. If Shaynee Snider already has one name cameo, then "Shayder" could be another.

Wait… wasn't Shaynee a saleswoman of sorts? "Shaynee's Bazaar" sounds quite familiar… an area in western Avernum?
  5. Nik: I don't recall the Xian Skull doing anything useful. Just exceedingly annoying. I picked it up and, upon realizing what it did, carried it long enough to transport it back to the guest quarters in Ft. Emergence. There it stayed for the remainder of the game, along with most of the Xian items I found, and all manner of other useless novelties.

Velius: No, having been curious about this myself a while back, I looked at the code (I know, I know; bad BoA player). It doesn't do anything at all. I'd guess it was the kobolds that put it there, for reasons of their own. Curious little devils.

  6. If you're looking to get better at BoA graphics design, I would suggest taking parts of already existing graphics and blending them together. I mostly use Photoshop for that sort of thing, as it allows for easy color changes. It's expensive, but I'm sure there is some open source stuff out there that's comparable.

For the Jedi thing, I'd take a PC graphic with a sword, then just add some color to the sword, and maybe an aura if the color alone doesn't do the trick.

For the angelic PC, try taking the wings from the griffin monster graphic in Diplomacy with the Dead and applying them to a human. As Lazarus said, I've done this already and posted it here (although I do hope to do some editing soon). Unfortunately, that's just a small template NPC graphic, not a PC graphic. It'll take some time to make it yourself, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

What I've found is that no one knows what you need quite like you do anyway. It'll just take a bit of practice, like anything.

To be quite honest, I really wish I had been joking, and that I hadn't distracted myself from real, at least mediocre scenarios.

My apologies to the community. That's the last I will say of this.
  8. I personally think it would have made more sense to feature DWtD, since of the four default scenarios, it was the new one. Making it the playable one in the demo might have made more sense, since many people would have played VoDT in BoE.

I'm not one of those, and I found VoDT to be a lot of fun as a first scenario. And it worked well enough for me to want to keep playing and buy the full version.

    Dude, don't trip. Muck's in ASR. :p

This is an excerpt from TrueSite for Blades , a website created and run by our very own Jewels/Gizmo (you should check it out, by the way; very helpful):

    Quote:
To enter the school, you need to find a black opening stone. There are three that can be found. North of the school (to the northeast), you can find a group of kobolds wandering around. If you speak with them, you can pay to get a stone. There is a beggar named Kharl in the center of Sweetgrove. If you speak with him, you can pay for an opening stone.

Finally, Axel suggests you should speak with someone named Avizo. He is in Fort Talrus, in the room next to where you started. After Axel tells you about Avizo, Avizo will tell you where his opening stone is. Avizo’s store is in the center of town. Break in and search the potted plant in the back room.
(There you go, Jewels. Save you the trouble.)
  10. One of the best ones I can give is to not try to jump in head first and make the world-changing scenario, because you'll look at it and it'll be way too daunting. Before even releasing my first (and only) complete scenario, I did a ton of experimenting and studying of other scenarios. And then when I did finish, it was pretty simple and very short, and still needed improvement.

    So yeah… start small.

EDIT: I suppose I can extend the same welcome to you too, Ghost.

    FYT.

Seriously, though. The ability to create your own adventures gives BoA a value of relatively enormous proportions. Especially once you understand how to manipulate the system and develop workarounds for problems.

Oh. Welcome to Spiderweb, by the way. Leave your sanity at the door.
