Humans are created with a force of willpower (as in consenting to mate) and their offspring is created by some organics. Everything else is rules and laws.

When I got my hands on Exile II way back when, a couple of changes to the fantasy canon kept me going:

    1.) Slitherakai
    2.) Nephilim
    3.) Vahnatai

I found all of these inventive enough...

edit: I'm still, after all these years, sad, that I didn't make it back here in due time after our first Blades of Exile endeavours. Too much work and too little thinking about Spiderwed Software's achievements kept me away until Avernum IV, which, according to some sort of canon, strangely enough got me hooked again.
  3. Aldous,

I think you have a very valid point there. One of my favourites is Exile 2 for the reasons you mentioned.

After Nethergate I quit playing Jeff's games for a while (nothing to do with his games, though) and finally came back for Avernum 4 (which I enjoyed, but not as much as Exile 2).

After that I played Geneforge 3 and liked it a lot (story- and gameplay-wise). I've played every game since and while I thoroughly (some more, some less) enjoy them, they all fail to reach the quality of Exile 2's intricate storyline (GF 5 only slightly imho).

But whatever Jeff's got up his sleeve: I'm pretty sure I'll like it

  4. I don't think that Jeff would want masses of tester, simply because he wouldn't get around to programming much, just managing their reports. Massive call-outs for beta testers make sense mostly for server stress-testing under real-life conditions.

That he closed the call for new testers implies that he's already found enough. There seems to be no reason for more advertising.

  5. Here are a couple of tips for editing your character:

    1) Search the scripts for encounters where you are rewarded (stats, items, whatever)

    2) Browse the appropriate script for item numbers (stat numbers you have to do research for - it's tedious but possible)

    3) Apply whatever you want as a reward for any quest and you'll get it (if you reward yourself in the script - please, backup first)

    4) If you're wondering why I'm not posting scripts - I feel it destroys too much of gameplay and fun to be had. You want to be an unkillable superhero? Work it out!

You should make a reservation at Milliway's some day tongue

@Danny: Unless somebody is going to prepare one last Blue Whale Stew for the whole of Japan, Greenland, Iceland or Norway, I don't quite see the reasoning behind that assessment (except both are in one way or another responsible for the death of one or more member of, up to an entire species).

IIRC The Hobbit's area you're referring to is called Mirkwood.
