  1. Most of what you learn in highschool will turn out to be useless. You might disagree with your Algebra 2 teacher, but really it's more important that they know how to use available technology to get the answer they want.

In the real world you're just going to flip out your phone and plug it in anyhow.

  2. To be fair, when you know something is fake you're likely to react differently.

    For example,

You may or may not find that funny. I do. However, if I were to see that happen in real-life I would not find it humorous.

  3. I'd be more inclined to think pessimistic people don't reach for something new. Instead they cling to what they have until you pry it from their cold dead hands.

It might not be all they'd hoped for, but they sure as hell won't let you replace their medicare with 'socialized' healthcare. smile

Well, hopefully you aren't in a profession like engineering, programming, physics of math that requires people to follow the state rules then.

Those of us that are must be careful about these things as an error will mess up a calculation and could cause a bug in a program for example.

If you write 1/2*x instead of x/2 you're doing it wrong. I mean, if you can put it in the numerator why don't you? The same goes for the original problem. It should really be written as 48(9+3)/2; otherwise I'm going to look at it as 48/(2(9+3)).
  5. I'm not sure the segregation issue is something that can be resolved at the school level. It's a 'natural' tendency (i.e. people live around similar people). Giving a school extra money to bus in a specific demographic isn't an ideal solution.

  6. At any rate, the crisis seems to have been temporarily averted for now. Let's not forget that this entire fiasco could've been avoided months ago.

    Edit: Response To Randomizer

Presumably as long as the government only kills the 'bad' people it's okay.

That's true. So we can enumerate the categories of things that lack proof as follows:

    (1) True concepts whose proof has not yet arrived
    (2) Untrue concepts whose proof will never arrive

Since the second category is rather gargantuously larger than the first, that assertion doesn't really help support any unproven concept. Should we be open to a baloney concept someday being proven? Absolutely. Should we kowtow to it in the meantime? Nope.

There are concepts that are not necessarily untrue; however, no proof of them will ever arrive.
  7. If you've got enough to shell out for a Mac, you could just get a monitor that you could plug your console into. I've got my ps3 on the hd input for my monitor. Although I've got to return it eventually because apparently there's a manufacturing bug in this model...

Although to your defense, there's probably no one here anymore besides myself who remembers it...
  9. I believe TM, Stareye, and Drakefyre should be above Alorael; although it's difficult to compensate for his ridiculous post count. Factoring service on the previous boards may help, but that information probably isn't readily available.

  10. Best not to dwell on what was, and instead focus on what is...

Edit: That's not to say that their presence isn't missed. Things will never be the way they were; but I think the end result would be the same even if they stayed.
