There's also a decent blade hidden in there. I don't think you have to defeat all the plagues. I believe (though it's been quite a while) that you can skip one of the slimes/roaches, as well as the trog/giant plagues.

Though you can always blame the 'wrong' agent and end the game prematurely.

Relying on strength to open doors is probably not the best idea. Some doors can only be opened through magic.

It takes time for the metal to heat up sufficiently (and deform) to reach the point where a collapse is possible.

All the views I've seen lead me to believe the collapses started at the top. I suspect if it began at the bottom the buildings would not have gone down so 'smoothly' and we'd have had several thousand more casualties.

I will agree that Latin is more 'regular' than English, but there are so many endings to learn that I would disqualify it from being labeled simple.
