  1. Thanks all! I found the Divine Fire stone circle, and I found Control Foes in Khoth's library. Also found Cloud of Blades in the Moon library. Divine Fire, Control Foes and Cloud of Blades suddenly makes my priest my go-to magic-user over my mage!
  2. Ok I found out that the "Take out of Town" option seems to reset the dungeon...or perhaps just simply leaving it then reentering does...at least it reset the laser puzzle...so, problem solved. It doesn't reset enemies or items but seems to reset environmental things / puzzles.
  3. So in the Concealed Tunnel upper level where you have to activate the teleporter, I think I accidentally destroyed the power node that you need to power up the fourth crystal for the teleporter. I think I have broken this quest and cannot continue. And I saved after the fact, thinking I could figure it out, but all the walkthroughs mention needing to use the (now destroyed) power node to power the teleporter. Is there another way? Or have I broken this quest and therefore the game? I have a backup save, but it's from quite a ways back...and I see no option in the Editor to reset dungeons to how they were before I went in them.
  4. Where can I buy these? I've found the spellbooks for the Level 3 versions of both but haven't bought the earlier versions. I've been to Sharimik, Lorelei, Tower of Magi, Shayder, and Mernia in search of these but no luck. Are they only available in Gale or something? Seems weird that the low-level versions can only be found so late in the game when their level 3 locations are much earlier on...seems counterintuitive to backtrack so much to get a more powerful version of a spell.
  5. Ok so I'm in the Drake Pillars section of the game, just beat up Gelmax the Goblin in his first hideout, and now I can't find where he ran off to. I played A5 a while ago but just can't remember where his "fortress to the north" is. I feel like I've searched everywhere...
  6. So I'm in the Barrier Tower on my way to killing Emperor Hawthorne. How do I get into the room in the middle with the magic fountain? In previous games, there was a secret door/false wall that let you in, but in this version I can find no switches to open a secret door to let me in. How do I get in there?
  7. I'm a bit frustrated by what so far has been a huge number of doors that are locked, too complicated to pick and don't seem to have any key to them. The doors I'm specifically thinking of off the top of my head are (there are more, but I can't remember them right now): The very southeasternmost door in the first level of the dungeons under Avadon. It's the southeast door in the room of cells where you find Spiridon. The other one is the wooden door in Moritz'Kri's easternmost tower (The Abomination Tower). I can see into the room, and it looks like there are some goodies in there...but AFAIK there is no key to be had. Are there any ways into these rooms, or are these just more obnoxious red herrings?
  8. You were right about the gremlin grove. After I found their women in the giant fort, they ran off and sure enough in their grove is a regenerating patch of crypt shrooms.
  9. Personally, I'd just be happy with E1 and E2 being remade with E3's engine... I think there's always the possibility of more avernum games. Not until avernum is completely and irrevocably obliterated of all life and possibility of life would there cease to be adventures there. But I do think a prequel would be really cool. Things to do, in no particular order: 1)find a place to stick the undesirables of Avernum...find the Abyss, and then force the undesirables to go there. 2) Defeat/Imprison Grah-Hoth. 3) Create/establish the Tower of Magi. 4) Find a place for major settlements, like the Castle, and instate Micah as King. 5) Cleanse the Eastern Gallery and Great cave of hostiles so towns can be built. 6) Negotiate with the dragons in Exile so they don't kill everyone on a whim. 7) Explore smaller cave passages off from Eastern Gallery and Great Cave/report on the findings there and possibility of settlement (thinking mostly of Northern Avernum, w/ Formello and Ft. Draco) 8) beginning of war with sliths, and the discovery of friendly sliths, and formation of gnass --any number of smaller quests. There could be lots to do!
  10. The northwest patch is the glowing nettles, and there aren't any secret doors in the area that I haven't found. Oh well. I realized this time I didn't give anyone cave lore, a dumb mistake...I think cave lore was what allowed me to find the shrooms last time (I found them wandering the eastern gallery, not even on a special or anything, totally random and 95% unrepeatable)
  11. I don't know the ins and outs of the material or how possible what I hope for is. Nevertheless, here's my wish. I wish that opponents could have better AI and better range of spells to use to defend/augment themselves and allies or harm/hinder their enemies. And when I mean spells I mean the same spells that the PCs have access to. An enemy priest at his last spell points uses symbiosis to cure his powerful warrior friend's wounds at his own life's expense. A powerful priest blocks the PCs in with a blade wall, or casts a protective circle so he can regenerate HP/MP after all his comrades have died. A mage decides to switch from kill to ice bolt, or ice bolt to flame upon realizing they don't have enough MP left to cast the better spell. An enemy mage using arrow spells (flame, venom, death) when it seems appropriate, or using dispel fields to clear a path through magical flames. That sort of stuff. Probably impossible given the game's age, but still that's the sort of thing I wish for.
  12. Where can I find some crypt shrooms? It's been a while since I played and I remember finding some, but I can't remember if it was a regenerating patch or a one-time deal. I need crypt shrooms for weak energy potions (so the alchemy library says) and I haven't been able to find any. The guy that sold me the recipe for weak energy mentioned that a good source of crypt shrooms was east of the great cave, north of the lava field, but the only patch I find in that spot is glowing nettles.
  13. And when I did it I never managed to "kill" anything...I just beat up on the shades until a message popped up that I'd damaged them too much and the vahnavoi and its shades just sort of died/vanished.
  14. Okay, I came through and did the basement area right when I was still in the Drake Pillars. Went upstairs, almost died fighting 1 temple defender, decided to come back later. I just finished the anama lands, and so now I went back to top-level khora-vysss. Kicked everyone's butt. Beat the chieftain and the casters and their friends without losing any of my people, and without having to go back to town to rest. Took out the slith horror after a long battle and 2 of my people dying from the killing curse. I think I got all the loot and everything (though I never found any spells...was kinda bummed about that) So anyway, there's still this room in the basement that has a tomb-like structure on a raised platform that I can't get to. I can see a coffin and a portal inside, but I don't know how to get in there. Is it possible to get in there, or is that whole thing just an obnoxious red herring?
  15. So I had a gold necklace and a fine waveblade at some point, but since they didn't serve any immediate purpose I sold them. Are there any other places I can find a gold necklace and a fine waveblade for sure? I have the materials for all of Strine's other stuff (including piles of herbs for all his potions). Even if I don't use these items, I'm a completionist and want to get them just to say that I did.
  16. I think maybe the characters are weaker from A4 on to show that Avernum itself has gotten weaker, that the legendary heroes of old have died away and no one really is left who has the ability and raw talent that the oldies did, including people like Erika and Patrick, not just the party.
  17. Oh, you kids and your desire to see everything at once. I actually like the camera being closer to the characters and showing less of the surrounding environment. The early Avernums were annoying because even in town mode I felt like I had to squint to see my characters. Cave tunnels, buildings, water? That stuff is boring, we see it all the time in the game. It's my characters that I really want to see. I grew up playing the Exile games (and I still play and enjoy them a WHOLE LOT MORE than any of the Avernums) and the game screen in those games was really a small portion of the overall screen, but it didn't detract from the gameplay at all.
  18. Can I get Demonslayer in Exile 3, or do i have to use the editor? So far I haven't heard anything about it. Some walkthroughs mention using Demonslayer to kill demons in E3 but no mention of how to get it. I got the sword legitimately in both other Exile games, so I guess I'm assuming I can get it in E3 too.
  19. I know about the Fury Crossbow, and I'll probably go get it sometime. But what's the best bow in the game, and where can I get it? The best I've found so far is Yew, but I keep finding awesome arrows. I have piles of arrows of light, arrows of life, burning arrows, exploding arrows, magic arrows, and I found the infinite arrow. But the Yew Bow still isn't anywhere near as damage-effective as a crossbow. Any magic/blessed bows in the game?
  20. Thanks, good to know. I think I'll register then do the troglos/giants, then go for the undead quests. I'm a completist, and I never pass up an opportunity for more loot/xp.
  21. I haven't yet registered the game, but I think I will soon. It's been years since I've played and replayed the demo and I finally want to get the whole thing. Here are my questions. 1. Is there an actual quest in Storm Port to kill the undead? If there is I don't know what to say to the mayor to make him give it to me. 2. Another quest involving undead--the one for Marish--sounds interesting too. Which undead quest is harder: Storm Port or Marish? My party ranges from level 12 to level 18 and they just finished the roaches (and the slimes before that) with zero problems. 3. Are there any spells that you get later in the game but by the time you get them don't matter that much? I felt that way about getting summon beast and conflagration. I'm thinking mostly of spells like Mindduel and Antimagic Cloud. In E2 it was possible to get these spells pretty soon mid-game (after coming back from Vahnatai lands) but in E3 it seems to me from what I've heard that these spells are only accessible in the latter portion of the game. These 2 spells were my most powerful in E2; but by the time you get them in E3, do they really help as much as they did in E2?
  22. Dual-wielding made life easier in the Exile series from about mid-game and on, when both weapons would start hitting reliably. Dual-wielding in Avernum, with the damage system the way it is (at least in A1-A3) would be total overkill. Since damage was much more toned down in the Es, dual-wielding was super for making those arduously long battles somewhat less annoying. However I loved the epic, long battles of the Es and sorely missed them in the As until A5. Even the boss fights in the As just seemed to happen much too quickly, whereas in the Es it could take a super long time.
  23. I found out it was a weight issue. Once I dropped some excess stuff and had enough weight, it was successful and appeared in my inventory. It was weird that the potions wouldn't appear on the ground though.
  24. I'm running E3 on Vista (home premium) in compatibility mode for Win 98/ME. I did the same thing with E2, finished it without any problem whatsoever. I'm in Krizsan, and I'm trying to make weak healing potions. I have the skill, the recipe, the ingredients, everything. If I fail, everything goes as normal...the 'gah!' noise, and notification of failure. But when it's successful, I get the message "no room in inventory" (which is wrong since I have over 10 open spots) and the ingredient is still used up as if I made the potion, and the potion's nowhere to be found. Any suggestions? This happens for every potion I try to make, and it's really annoying. Edit: And no, I won't just switch over to Avernum, so don't suggest that, ok? I tried the Avernum games, didn't like them--not my style.
