  1. A few weeks ago, I saw that all of my PCs showed signs of poisoning, while crossing a swamp, all save the one with the characteristic 'cave lore'. Shortly after the machine that game was on broke and the saves on it couldn't be recovered without professional help.

So I created a new party on a machine running Windows Vista and gave cave lore to everyone. I usually give several charactaristics to each character as I enjoy roaming the countryside killing everything that will fight, and I almost never finish a game lower than lvl 40, so the extra 9 points won't matter.

None of them get poisoned any more when crossing a swamp, but they still get that nerve-racking cough.

Did anyone here know, that cave lore could do that?

  2. Some distance south of Fort Draco on the opposite side of the river there's a special where a ghost appears who promises a reward if you would take revenge on some ogres he couldn't escape from. Has anyone ever been able to resolve this event, find and kill the ogres and be rewarded?

With such a lot of knowledgeable people here, I'm holding my breath.

  3. Outdoors? I thought they might be found  in a crypt. Outdoors? My bet is on the Tower of the Magi quest.  More time, as my party is still lvl 6 hunting for random encounter.

BTW I found another good use for 'wound'. Fighting Garzahd my caster ran out of smoky crystals. I had three fighters with low lvl priest skills and, of course, a high lvl priest. I had them gang up on Garzahd and shower him with 'wound' spells. They got him in about four rounds. 'Wound' was the only spell he wasn't immune to.

  4. After putting the levers in the correct pattern - took me ages - I reached the place where Delrin-Bok was supposed to be and found - nothing. Now I didn't use shockwave as I don't have it yet, or he just might have dropped some item, so where is he? Has anyone ever seen and fought him? I wonder.

I have moved on free Caffren-Bok, and I enjoyed the battle at the Guardian Plains very much, only I couldn't save many of the Vahnatai troups, they're dying like flies left, right and center. I even killed Garzahd, the dialogue said he was dead, but  of course he will pop  up again for the end fight.

  5. After four games of Exile Escape From the Pit, I started Crystal Souls last night. After finishing the thieves' hideout under Fort Draco and abt. two dozen random encounters, my party's inventory is bursting with unidentified items, and there's no sage at Fort Draco. Of course, there's always the problem of identifying an item for more than it's worth, but I'd really like to know what to throw out and what to keep.

I'm looking forward to your replies.

  6. I finished the game. What worked for me was to operate the topmost button first, then the one next to the entrance and after that the one to the east, beyond the sea of lava. The button behind the  stalactites stayed blocked, so it must have been a red herring all along.

I'm in the middle of creating my next party.

Thanks to all for your help.

  7. I forgot to take notes in my last game,  so I have been trying all night to get out of that huge room with shades, assassins, golems etc.  There are four buttons in all, the western one being blocked by some stalactites. Do I have to push those buttons in a certain order, and will the western one ever be accessible?

I hid in the lava passage to top up drained SP which took some time. As I didn't want to face the waiting mob I let my casters use Shockwave until the yelling had stopped.

Could anybody point me to the exit, please?

A little point about the Mace which you may not have noticed is that it is, if memory serves, an edged weapon, liked a sword.

I noticed,  but I thought it must have been Jeff Vogel up to his tricks again. For instance, Smite is described as a one-handed weapon, and giant killer; it could be anything, edged, bashing or pole. I only noticed that it must be a bashing weapon, when I saw its shape while it was lying on the floor in the store room.

I sold the Mace of Augvah for 200 gold.  Apart affecting its wielders performance, there were no penalties I could see. It certainly didn't stick to its user having to be magically removed. (I didn't even buy the spell).

I just killed Hawthorne and almost repeated the battle, as I brought back almost no loot.  As my mages had cast protection on everyone, the party came back unhurt. Next time I won't bother taking along all those Elixiers of Power, as it's quite possible to rest before meeting Erika.  That's one reason why I'm looking forward to playing Crystal Souls: its improved inventory management.

If you've not found a special dot yet, you've not found the right location!

There was no dot, I'll check it again. I got swarmed by about five demon hordes emerging from the Mace of Augvah site. But they presented me with the final two Onyx Charms two of my characters were waiting for.

I think I'll start another party after finishing this game just to see what the game will be like without losing hundreds of XP drinking sludge.

The Mace of Augvah is described as "Damage 10 Bonus -7". Odd. My bashing weapons expert is currently wielding Smite and a Magic mace, and she's doing fine.

  11. Hello Ess-Eschas,

Thanks a lot, I found the place though the angel must have left, seeing that I'd already killed Grah Hoth. But the mace was still there, and I'm sure that I'd never found it before, neither when I played the Exiles 22 years ago nor in my previous game. I wonder what my bashed weapons specialist will make of it, her skill is currently at 15 and she's a double wielder.

BTW I've given two or three lvls of priest spells to fighter 2 and 3 at the start of the game, so they wouldn't waste their turns but make themselves useful by casting Wound, a much underrated spell IMHO.

    Best regards,

    Traute

  12. According to the angel in the secret passage on the way to Grah Hoth's fortress, there's supposed to be another angel inside the fortress due west of a totem. That way  a party could avoid drinking from the poisoned fountains and losing  lots of XP.  I killed Grah Hoth, no problem, but had to drink from the fountains, as I couldn't find the totem (and the angel), not in this game nor in the last one.

    So, where is that totem?

    Best regards, Traute
