At the very least has Jeff changed what felt like an absurd number of enemies that seemed to resist their standard attack?

Seems no but now there are more enemies imune to other kinds of damage.

Sorcerers are still a better option as they have very varied attacks.

Im making a shaman run though. Early level they seem the most reliable.

  2. Maybe its the other way around but the two labels are sorta related. Anyway as i said its ancient. But other games work in it. I wouldn't even have created the thread if not for that. Hell i wouldn't even try installing the game in it. But i figured there would be a different problem. In any case, since no solutions are available there's no point in beating the same bush repeatedly. Like i said, dirext x works fine. I'll be able to play

  3. Yah i did. I put on old machines option and lowest requirements in general. It still has a horrible frame rate even on the in game menu screen.

As i said before though I don't think its the graphics card. It can run games i'd assume heavier. Mount and blade warborn, mount and blade fire and sword, dragon age origins, dragon age inquisition, i think torchlight 2 as well. Its an MSI laptop and msi owns nVidia. Even though its about 8 years old the graphics card seems to handle some relatively recent games. It is possible that im wrong on this but im skeptical. The surprise wouldn't be there if other games crashed or didn't work.

In any case direct x version works so as soon as i can make it fullscreen i'll be able to enjoy it with few complaints

  4. Sorry to resurrect this thread but on; Memory of Light WOT14

WHAT HIGH NOTE! EVERYONE IS DYING! I MEAN... SHEESH. I CAN PROBABLY DEDUCE THAT THAT SOMEHOW MIGHT BE FIXED BUT WHAT THE HELL... ALL THESE FEELS! GAAAAAH!

Edit: i finished it now. With grudging respect over the author not having brought people back to life. None that matter anyway. How do i even start to get over this.

Edit: That is a major spoiler. So avoid it if you haven't finished.

    Srsly sorry blxz.

—Alorael, who also likes Erika. She's a good concept and plays an interesting role in the world. But personality? Beyond vengeful, powerful mage, not very much.

I agree with the rest. But this is blasphemy xD

Ok but as slartibus was saying in previous games while you dont usually get to know first hand of their quirks as much, you do by other peoples opinion on the characters. On their own they don't ammount to much of a personality. But coupled with what others say you get a decent picture. Flaws included. Its just not personal which diminishes their direct impact on the player.

  6. Alorael contrasted "character writing" with the strong, debate-generating factional/philosophic writing he was praising from Jeff, and then you used variations on "well written characters" 3 times in your comment, so if that's not what we're talking about I'm very confused.

I suppose i shouldn't have said "well written" though fervour inducing doesn't come out as easy. To be fair until Alorael explained further i was also a bit confused.

  7. True on both accounts. Though weather on purpose or simply as a smaller piece of the big faction figure he has written characters well, the most obvious being greta and alwan. One could say they are simple figure pieces for their faction it is quite possible to be pro shapers and dislike alwan as well as being pro rebel and disliking greta. Other examples are khyryk and shanti(who by herself makes barzite an unappealing faction to the player) and Lankan. Now that i think about it most of the better written characters are or were shapers.

Avernum doesn't have much in the way of factions but the characters are well written too(though usually there are no hearty/fervorous arguments on their worth. The only difference avadon seems to bring is how personal it is to you, all your partners put you in difficult situations. Tueir motivations and personality affect your life directly.

  8. Jeff made more monsters immune to other damage types, but there are plenty of constructs that are immune and enough that have higher energy resistances. At least he fixed the earthquake so it uses intelligence instead of dexterity.

Finally i can be myself without being significantly worse than the rest. Its all i wanted.

    3. Ultimately, Geneforge 3 is the Spiderweb game that best represents the current American presidential election cycle.

I was gonna say haterz gonna hate out of actual good come backs but now i have to grudgingly concede.

Still my favourite spiderweb game. Probably though cause it was the first game i played with any literacy in english. So i'll agree with the person upstairs on their assessment on different generations of fans getting a different feel to the games. The first geneforge for me was killing people and making beasts. So ya,

  10. No, nothing on the background. That pc is mostly used for storage. I don't think reinstalling would work. Avernum 6 had the same issue with this pc but since i had options i never dug into it. I'll later check if its in 64 or 32 bit. Maybe that would help. But thanks for the input :)

  11. My other computer broke down so im using this old one now. I got the GOG 2.0.0.1 version i think, and its painfully slow. I don't think its cause of the graphics card as i can play both dragon age 1 and 2 with little limitation. Any help? Ah. Its windows 7 i think the problem is with it.

And i really want to play this cause this game is our baby. Unfortunately its going to be a while until i get a new pc.

  12. G3 I can't say much about, but put me in the minority where I actually really LIKED Avernum 4. Don't really get why it's hated so much...

I liked g3 a lot, the gameplay, the maps, greta and alwan, i liked almost everything cept the storyline and factions so im glad he's remaking one of my favorites into something better.

Oddly i actually liked a4 too, as people said it was like a3 but in the caverns. The thing is, i was very interested in it, like oooh shady shade monsters in cities... Ohh lake monsters in lakes... What did this? Is it a new ark for a powerful enemy? If even the vahnathai are contacting us it must be something big indeed. All the way until i find out its rentar. Then im like... You again? Pls stop. Overall i liked the game though.

Still lots of complaints in both games so i think a story re hash would work very well for them. I just hope it doesn't ruin direct plot build up to g4.

A4 though liked it as i might it could have been completely erased from the avernum series and no one would notice. It lacks any sort of relevance and the quirky writing is not there.

  13. I'd think that would be a bit similar to avadon. Should work though.

Also tru. A5 did well at it but either origins could work well specially with the cartography idea.

To be more clear, some of the avernum cities wouldn't have exhisted. Other than knowledge of the great caves one would be a bit disoriented.

  14. First expedition wouldn't really work as a prequel due to gameplay mechanics. Unless you lose a team mate at certain specific quests/areas until you're one sole guy that dies too. plus there is the fact that the first expedition goes in heavily armed and equiped with magical relics etc etc... Making the level up thing and increased ability moot. Specially since avernum didn't even have metal in the beginning. Maybe access to special magic over time would work but even then...

The grah hoth thing and the beginning of avernum as a nation could work but the story would be too close and to similar to eftp in time and concept.

Leaving me with vahnatai origin which jeff said clearly that it wouldn't happen(something about wanting to preserve the alienicity of them, though my memory might prove inaccurate) or slith exile. Which could really work out and i believe there is story potential for it and small nuances of it, such as moral alignment making you either become a savage slith with bonus to damage and resistance but much like canisters, it would cause you to fight in some areas where dialogue would work and have some factions removed. Or you become an enlightened one, i suppose bonus to healing. Plus some factions inaccessible as well.

Thats the extent of my speculation for now.

  15. I really loved the 2005 film, "The Descent." It's a strange combination of a spelunking film, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Aliens. Didn't have much impact in terms of film, but the new "Tomb Raider" reboot ripped it off liberally, stealing its main plot arch and a certain scene where the main character is baptized in blood:

The French also had a really great run of very nihilistic horror films in the 2000s. My favorite of the lot was "Inside," about a woman stalking a pregnant woman. One of the most intense thrillers I've ever seen:

Not really a slasher film at all, but the last truly great horror film I saw was "The Witch." Worth seeing if you like horror:

Otherwise, too many to list. I'd have to sit down and think some more.

Most of these are actually good. Not the so bad its good kind. Like genuinely good. Thanks for the Suggestions. The witch was messed up.
