Okay, but it should say you, and three other bedraggled people are thrown in the pit alone to face whatever, you know? Make some sort of reference to the fact that they are there.
Seeing how the story telling is quite in-depth, I thought this to be a pretty big flaw.
Leave your sanity at the door. You don't need it.
Once you are thrown into Avernum there's no easy way out.

I have been wondering about the nicknames the varying denizen's of Avernum call eachother.
It is really racist if you..
Call a bunch of nephilim/nephar kitties?
How about if you refer to slithzerikai as lizards? I mean, they are like lizard's but in a way they aren't because they can understand common language and are able to use magic so is it really wrong to say a slithzerikai is a lizard or should they be referred as slithzerikai as their own species? Does being a savage or friendly slith make a difference?
Then there are those savage slitzerikai, there is this chief of savage slithzerikai in their secret hideout were they keep a stolen artifact from the friendly slithzerikai. This chief calls one of the fire lizards ''Little burny.'' Haha, i laughed first when i heard him call a fire lizard ''Little burny'' But might that be appropriate?

Have you tried self-restraining? There's not like any help pages we could point out to you to stop cheating.

"hey can you help us clean up some problems? that you kind of caused?" "actually i have an appointment with a pina colada right about now, so if you'll excuse me"
Haha! I could imagine my warrior - character of 'The heroes' saying something like that. Although, everyone else in the party while they deem her necessary to stay alive are pissed off at her antics at times.
My tank character would be like "Why should we go back down there?! That dank, musty, old cave complex. The dust gets everywhere on my platemail, its annoying, Not to mention the barbaric Slithzerikai.. It makes it difficult to breath when your chest plate gets axed by such force."
Then my priest would be like "Shut up and lets just enjoy we are all still alive and most importantly Outside.. I have always been the one to nurse you together after these absolutely mad adventures. You just have to explore every single cave don't you?"
My sorceress would stop them all from complaining and likely say she's missing the tower of the mages and an enlightening talk with Motrax..
-
What does prevent you from imagining your first party how you ever like?
I get it that after 'The heroes' did their duty to Avernum, they left Avernum to the surface and with the way to escape Avernum discovered they could visit their friends anytime they'd like again..
I like A:eftp soundtrack more than A2:cs. I just can't seem to get the same epic feeling from this soundtrack even though the story is still epic as in the A1.

When Boutell reforges the demonslayer and then you bring it to Silvar to this smith that claims to have demonslayer on his wall..
You show the real demonslayer to him to mock him.

May I ask a few questions about Steam sales?
My classmate bought me two $20 Steam cards from a hypermarket, and I paid him the retail price. Now I have $40 on my account and I'm finally using Steam woohoo!
First, I bought Avernum: Escape from the Pits because it's for sale for $2 rather than the $10 because $2.
Next, I bought Kingdoms Rise which is $15 early access multiplayer. Runs crappy on my laptop, looks somewhat good, still in beta I think, so I'll wait for more updates.
Now I have about $24 IIRL and I want to buy Avernum Crystal Souls or the Geneforge Saga. Either way, it won't take much time deciding what to buy once I download the demo for Crystal Souls. But here's the real question:
Which is better; to buy A2:CS with it's full price on Steam? Or buy it during a sale? I wanted to support Jeff as much as possible, because that's how being supportive works right? I would gladly buy it from the home page itself, unfortunately, this 16 year old ain't got credit card or any payment method listed there
It depends whether you wish to wait for a sale or have it right away.
If you wait for a sale. You likely get it at discount.

if you live in europe, the games are more expensive on steam, since it uses an unfair 1:1 conversion rate for euro, so crystal souls for example ends up costing about 23-24 usd.
if you can only get the game with euro, gog is a much better alternative since it has correct exchange rates.
I got Crystal souls from Steam on the launch day. Cost me only 17€

They are there to mock you.
However, you can cross empty spaces using a specific item in game.
-
I suggest you start off with Avernum: Escape from the pit. If you do wish to understand the storyline of Avernum 2 deeper. As far as i can tell the same world is still there. Just that some time has passed since the events of Avernum 1.
-
I bought Avernum 2:CS from steam. It has no problem at running full screen. Confirmed.
-
Soon. I can let myself upon some Avernum 2.
Why does the clock move so slow? I want to be rid of work and just lose myself into the underworld!
I happily lose sense of time and space again.. Before i notice it, its night and i have to go to sleep.. Buh..
I was there 00:01 GMT +2 to purchase the Avernum 2.
Here! Take my sanity! Just take it!!!
-
Only 5 hours until its available on steam.
-
I am thrilled. I was told, that i should really play Avernum 2 before 4,5,6 and 4 contains some serious spoilers.
It has been a torture to not play 4,5,6 while waiting for Avernum 2.
Only 5 days and 10 hours to go. According to steam. It is available 14. January.
-
So, after achieving all three victory conditions and doing some side quests after that because Avernum 2 isn't out yet.
I find myself in a problematic situation. I don't know where to continue the development of my characters. A development that makes sense. I would hate nothing more than to waste those precious points on something that makes no sense considering the primary role of that character.

Such a waste. Games want to get played. Well, if nothing else. I can brag about having rare achievements on my list. Currently I am on about 60 hours of gameplay with 2 out of 3 endings discovered.
-
I was inspecting the achievements for Avernum - escape from the pit on steam and noticed that from all the people who own the game only 5 - 6% have completed the game on any of the three victory conditions. I wonder, why is that? The story is very good, you want to see how it ends. Given, its a long journey there but its worth it! http://steamcommunity.com/stats/AvernumEscapeFromthePit/achievements/

..And so, the brave survivors escaped Avernum through the last gauntlet. But, not before they slayed Grah-hoth and Adze-Haakai. It would be very selfish to leave the Avernumians die in the hands of the demons. Would kinda feel like betraying their trust escaping Avernum. Besides, they are nice people after all. If a little pale and obnoxious at times.
I surely didn't expect a lot when i bought Avernum - escape from the pit. But, boy it sure did deliver! I am glad i gave it a try!
January is soon, very soon. I can get my hands on Avernum 2 - Crystalline souls.
-
What little experience i have from playing Avernum. If you would be doing all mage party.
You would perhaps wish to learn the domination - spell as early as possible. As it lets you possess the enemy monster. Perhaps possess a tank for yourself?
It'll be fun with the demons once you get there. If you are dependent on magic damage. Some demons are immune to fire or lightning damage which cancels out quite a lot of effective spells.
In any case. It would sound like you need a lot of variety on spells to go with every and all conditions.

So, as far as i have experienced the Slith's like to gang up and attack as a group against one character.
I have managed to devise a way to fight them off kind off.
Have my tank character attract all the Slith's on him and then have my sorceress cast a rain of electricity on them that covers nearly all of them doing pretty impressive damage and kills the weakest ones.
After that, i have my priest cast war chant on my people before my warrior character uses the adrenaline rush - discipline and finishes of 3 more of the slith's if he is lucky.
This strategy consumes a lot of my sorceress' energy even with high intelligence.
Are there probably any faster/cheaper/effective ways to finish off a bunch of Slithzerikai warriors?

I bought all the Avernum games from steam at 4€
There was -80% discount.
I started from Avernum - The escape from the pit.
This game was better than i expected. I am happily hooked onto it. :3
I feel like i got more than i paid for. I would be happy to pay even more for such a superb story!
I am determined to lead my group of survivors to escape Avernum and see the daylight again.

I am sure Empire wouldn't mind you using oregano with your chicken wings. On other note, wonder if Vahnatai even know what oregano is, i mean. Oregano doesn't grow deep down there, unless the tower of magi has managed to create something similar to oregano from mushrooms.
Let alone why would any Pok of Vahnatai care if you spiced your food up a little, hahaha!
