Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
I'm not wasting any time this time, and getting right into it, with this, my Let's Play of Geneforge 3! This should be good. Once again, if you want to see my previous LPs you can view them here and here. Be sure to let me know what you guys think! Your comments sustain me. Garrulous Glaahk Dear Potato
Good luck with this one! I've never played as a Guardian, I always tend to play with magic oriented classes. In Geneforge, I rather play around with agents-infiltrators. Not sure if you will have problems with a pure melee warrior, though. Are you planning to play it without creations at all? You can team with Greta and Alwan, so I guess in this chapter that idea is more feasible. Also, I saw you discarded javelins, so, that means missile weapons would be discarded too? Or do you plan to stick with batons?

I can say now that, much like in the past, missile weapons and batons will only be used as last resort, and I will have some allied creations, in addition to Alwan and Greta. The only reason I didn't make the Fyora was because I REALLY dislike having uncontrolled creations/allies.
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
If you go for a melee Guardian plus a small squad of Vlish for backup, you'll be fine. Maybe not an optimal build, but definitely viable.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Sure it may be viable, but hey, I'm a difficult person. ;3 Either way, time to find out what happened in the rest of the school.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
And a quick step outside gets us another companion, and a meeting with the antagonist of the game. Or as close to the antagonist as we can get this early on.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Ya gotta give props to the guy, I mean, he DID outnumber us. We just had swords and smarts and he didn't.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Short episode here. It's early and stuff is easy, we're not having to deal with frustration from constant dying or anything yet.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
The most important stats early on for a solo guardian are MELEE and QUICK ACTION. Quick action allows you to 1 shot 1 kill enemies that aren't bosses with a good enough chance. Melee and to some respects strength allows you to hit them so you can 1 shot them in the first place. I don't think its possible to 1 shot 1 ko regular enemies with just raw strength and melee without at least a moderate QA. I may be wrong however. Edit: I thought this was a solo guardian, its not
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Well this is embarassing...
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Taking down some mines, and a little discussion about who I'm going to ally with. Sort of.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Yanno I can kinda understand those people, I mean, the Shapers DO kinda have a monopoly on available land and countries to live in.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
I admit, not really much I have to say about this episode. Just a bit of exploring and stuff here. Oh and finding the anvil.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
A two-part episode! Been a while since that happened, but with the amount of talking and stuff in Fort Kentia I had to do it.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Very interesting. I couldn't even remember that you get hirelings in Geneforge 3. Do you ever get hirelings like Alwan and Greta in any other Geneforge other than 3?
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
There are MANY recruitable NPC creatures in G2. But you can't control their actions like you can with Greta and Alwan in G3, and they don't really talk much or have personality. G4 has a couple of recruitable creatures, but they are limited to specific segments of the game and which faction you're playing. I find it interesting that Greta and Alwan in G3 are in some way the forerunners of the party members in Avadon - Jeff's first experiment with controllable party members who are NPCs with distinct personalities who speak and take independent actions, etc.
Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
You can get Mehken for the initial part of the game in G5, she has a bit of personality too.
Garrulous Glaahk Dear Potato
Yeah... Greta and Alwan are by far the best adittion to Geneforge 3. It was a pleasant surprise for me. I hope the next Avadon goes for that route with companions as the forst one, too. Right now I'm with G5 for the first time and I was expecting for Mehken to stay a little longer... Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
Right now I'm with G5 for the first time and I was expecting for Mehken to stay a little longer... You shouldn't really take her though, turning her in gives a big reward.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
I actually get into talking about the characters a bit more in a later episode. I like how they managed to implement it. For now though, here's the next episode: cleaning out mines.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Spend this episode clearing out some creatures, and discussing the ones we see, and a theory I have about them.
Garrulous Glaahk Dear Potato
The last video gives me some problems; I'm not able to see more than 1 minute 43 seconds. I was curious about the theory... let me guess, it's about spawners? Is the only creature I could see in that lapse
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
The last video gives me some problems; I'm not able to see more than 1 minute 43 seconds. I was curious about the theory... let me guess, it's about spawners? Is the only creature I could see in that lapse Problem's on your end I think, video's playing fine for me. I say either reset the vid, or maybe skip ahead to the 1:44 mark. One of those would probably work. And yes, it is.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
And at last we reach the final area and find out what was causing all these problems. I'm sure it's just a big spawn-OHGODKILLITWITHFIRE!!!! I admit though, I had fun with the voice on this one.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
We make it to Harmony Isle, and it seems like they have more than just Rogue problems here.
Garrulous Glaahk Spukrian
Intereresting theory about the spawners. It is definitely plausible. What I'm wondering about is what the function of those gems and crystals are. For the pylons I guess the gems would be some kind of magical battery for the pylon's spells. But what function do they fill for the spawner? Or are they perhaps some kind of byproduct of the Shaping process?
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
I imagine it could be a byproduct. A remnant of their previous form that whoever created them didn't bother getting rid of. And here's the next episode, which has a bit of that talking about companions I mentioned earlier in the thread.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
And here we get a brief visit from an old friend. Kinda solves a suspicion we had though.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Ah, San Ru. Now we can hear the Shaper's side of everything that's been going on on Bunny Isle.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
This next area was pretty quiet and uneventful, so I ended up spending the time talking about what I thought of everything going on on the island, and whose fault all of this is. What about you guys? What do you think?
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Bit of wandering, bit of exploring, bit of fighting in this one.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
And now we reach the gatherer camp. Finally we can find out their side of this whole mess.
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Some gatherers and a cave of rogues. Sounds like a party to me.
Garrulous Glaahk Spukrian
You do have a point about the Shapers "putting themselves on a pedestal". The reasoning for this is that the Shapers feel that if they don't command respect and fear, outsiders will become bold and start stealing Shaper secrets. Maybe if the Shapers treated outsiders a little bit better then maybe they could start trusting eachother better? Anyway, IMHO, Litalia is responsible for the death of several innocent gatherers, to me that makes her almost as bad as the Shapers. But her strategy is sound actually: do a "false flag" attack, blame the Shapers, sow dissent and then save the day, gaining allies against the Shapers in the process. Chittering Clawbug Faerie Storm
Interesting seeing someone who plays as a guardian, I usually play as a shaper or occasionally an agent. I much prefer ranged attackers...
Well-Actually War Trall Chessrook44
Heh, interestingly enough, there's no reason a Guardian can't be a ranged attacker, using Batons and Crystals and the like. He just doesn't have to rely on energy and essence, just ammo. Anyway, at long, LONG last, we've finally made it to the keep of Lord Rahul. And you have NO idea how frustrating it was trying to find a scalpel. Which I still didn't.
