Fledgling Fyora Aquillion
I've noticed that if I read a book or use a canister that teaches a skill, spell, or shaped creature, then try to increase it at a trainer, the point I gained from the book/canister counts against the two points I can gain from training; I can only increase the skill to a total of 2, and (assuming I used the only book/canister available to me before training) can apparently never raise the spell/shaped creature above 2. But, if I train two times from the trainer first, I can still use the book/canister, resulting in a total of 3. Is this a bug, and if so, which case is bugged? And, perhaps more importantly, is my character permanently crippled if I train from a book or canister before using a trainer?
Well-Actually War Trall Dolphin
Using books/canisters will count as using one of the points you would have gained from a trainer. Fortunately you can use books/canisters to gain additional points after training two points with a trainer. This is not a bug, just a bad feature. If you want maximum points in whatever skill go to the trainers before using books/canisters.
Ineffable Wingbolt JadeWolf
This is not a bug, if I have understood properly. The trainers can only teach you up to level 2 of any skill, but the canisters give 1 level no matter what level the skill is at. So it is always a good idea to train before using canisters/ books. Did I explain that thoroughly?
Easygoing Eyebeast Zeviz
You might not be in too much trouble, because many creations have more than 1 canister available. You can check Shrodinger's faq http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/918441.html for locations of all canisters/books/stat-giving quests in the game. Rotghroth Rhapsody Walter
Note that for trainers that train statistics (such as the guy in east medab that trains combat skills), it also counts weather you've put skill points into that skill.
