Forcing custom graphics

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I'm pretty sure this can be done, but I don't know how. What I want to do is to "Force" one of my own custom graphics over the standard BoA character pictures. So basically, I want to the game to read MY custom graphic instead of the standard, but I don't want to permanately affect BoA. I want this to work JUST in my scenario, and not in others.

I hope that makes sense. I heard that someone else was doing something similar, just with Ursagi. Maybe that code will help...

Thanks!

It's pretty easy. Every graphic in the standard BoA set has a sheet number attached to it; you can find these numbers by poking around in the graphics files. Just include in your scenario a custom graphic sheet with the same number as the default graphic you want to replace.

That was the first thing I tried. frown

Ah, you're using Windows, aren't you? Then you might be out of luck.
If it can be done for MAC, JV should have made it possible to be done with WIN. Perhaps a call in the scenario script would do it?

Or maybe i should just email and ask him.

Since it's not a documented or supported feature, just exploiting a quirk of the way graphics are handled, it won't necessarily work the same way on both platforms. Judging from past experience, if you email Jeff, he's more likely to deliberately take the ability to override default graphics out of the Mac version than put it into the Windows version.

Yeah. But if something's only for MAC, or only for WIN, it makes it useless anyway.

Emailed asking how he's doing it in his Ursagi one.

I did this in LP. You just make graphics that have the same ID as the ones you want to over-write, and tell PC users to copy them over into their data files. You can just include it in the .cmg file for Macs and it will work more or less fine.

If you want to look at how I did it, just download Lord Putidus.

I was wondering wether I would ahve to do that. It's a complete swap of all of the PC pictures. That's a VERY big graphics file size, for a SMALL scenario.

Anyway, Can't say more about what I'm working on, though I have taken a few hints from your Bahssikava cut-scenes (fancy images etc). I'm also using a SDF txt file now, so I don't forget what Flags have been used or not.

Most PC users will ignore a "do this change which will change everything for every OTHER scenario as well" request, anyway. Unless it's a bugfix, in which case they might do it if they don't expect JV to fix it in a future patch.

For a limited number of monsters/items you can do the import/override trick and set their graphics to your new sheets. But if it's a HUGE change, then I guess you're out of luck.
