Geneforge 3 Glitch/bug

So recently I started playing Geneforge 3 after completing Geneforge 1 and 2 without any issues. I started Geneforge 3 and completed most of the first island without any issues. It should be noted that I used cheat engine to obtain more skill points and money and that I used cheat engine on each of the previous games with no issues. All was well and then I quit the game for a while and recently came back to finish it. However, the game would start and and immediately close. I checked the integrity of the game files and nothing was missing. So I reinstalled the game. When I started up the game I noticed that my saves were missing. So I did some investigating and found that the save file location moved. It was originally in C:\Users\black\Documents\Spiderweb Software, but now it is in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Spiderweb Software. So I transferred the existing saves from the first location and moved them to the second location. This is when chaos began. I loaded into the game just fine but when I tried to enter another area the map was extremely glitched but I still managed to enter another area and then I noticed that all of my characters were invisible. Also any walls that were visible disappeared as well. All other characters became invisible too with only their shadow remaining. After some fiddling around I decided to delete all the saves and start a new game in hopes that that would solve the issue. I managed to get through the first floor just fine even with cheat engine I still managed to have everything be normal. I had dialogue with the first student and was just fine. When I entered the second level things were fine until I conversed with mind Hrrol. When I exited conversation all of the bugs experienced on the other save were present. At this point I have no idea what is causing the issue and would like some help figuring out what is causing the problem.

Did you update your operating system between playing the games? Are you using the latest version of Geneforge 3?

 

Please list your operating system and if you bought the games from another site than Spiderweb Software. Some third party vendors add their own software as a wrapper between you and the game.

I didn't update my OS between playing the games and I imagine I'm using the latest version considering I've reinstalled it several times over the past days but I'm not sure how to find out which is the latest version and which version I have. I purchased the games through steam.

Windows version 1903 (OS build 18362.778).

The version information and support link are here. Steam has a problem with updating versions for smaller companies like Spiderweb Software. But they should have done it after this many years.

So there aren't any other versions of Geneforge 3 on windows. The issue must be elsewhere.

I found what is causing the issue although I have no idea how to fix it. The game will be completely fine until I tab out of the game. When I reenter the game it seems to be fine until I open any menu whether or not it be my inventory or a character's dialogue. Afterwards the bug continues until I restart the game.
