Character art - copy to A6

Recommended Posts

I love the new character portraits; they're much nicer than the old ones, but still true to the original spirit. And it turns out that they're the same size and format as the ones that are used in A6 (Mac version, anyway). This makes it really easy to copy them over. The easiest way to do it is this:

1. Right-click on the AEFTP icon and select "Show Package Contents".

2. Open the Contents folder and make a duplicate of the whole Resources folder.

3. Open your duplicate folder and find files G220.png through G234.png

4. Now go to the Avernum 6 folder and open Avernum 6 Files.

5. Make a back-up copy of the Graphics Core folder.

6. Now simply drag and drop the png files (G220-G234) from your duplicate AEFTP Resources folder to the original A6 Graphics Core folder.

Unfortunately, the two barbarian graphics have been switched with the two priest graphics, so you will have to change the name of G224 to G228 and vice-versa; likewise with G225 and G229. It may be easier to just open those ones from the AEFTP folder and "Save As..." to the desktop before dragging them into the A6 Graphics Core folder. Just make sure you get the .png extension in the file name.

7. You can discard the duplicate AEFTP Resources folder once you've finished pillaging it.

Now open up A6 and admire your new character graphics! Hopefully we'll see some new Nephil and Slith ones in the next remake.

If you want to do the same for A5, you will have to change the format to BMP, but it should still work (haven't tried it yet).
