Garrulous Glaahk Barzhal
I've finally had some time to play through Avadon and I thought I'd share my thoughts. Overall I rate it a B. For comparison I'd rate Avernum 6 a B- and Geneforges 1,2, and 5 an A+. The plot was well done for the most part. It had new ideas and maintained Jeff's underlying "Evil Empire" theme. I didn't find my first playthrough on Normal too hard or too easy, but I'm finding my playthrough now on Torment pretty challenging. I find it much better balanced that Avernum 6. The medal achievements were a nice addition, but I agree with an earlier post that they shouldn't be difficulty based. The linear plot was a bit disappointing. I hit the level 30 cap way too early and it wouldn't have been so bad, but there were many skills that were unattainable at 30. There definitely should have been levels available beyond 30, even if the experience requirement was sharply raised. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the game. Understated Ur-Drakon Callie
I actually thought the plot was them most disappointing aspect of the game. It leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but hopefully the sequel will clarify on a lot of things.
