Haste and speed used to do the same things before Avernum 5 and Geneforge 5 games. Now haste gives you a 33% chance that your first action only use 5 action points instead of the usual 9. Speed increases the number of your actions points by 5 so you have time for a second action or at least one action even when slowed.

A weaken curse reduces the damage that you do by 4 damage levels (it used to be 20%). Slowing gives you a 33% chance that you won't act in a given round. Daze (mental effect) means you can't attack until you are damaged to remove the daze. Charm (mental effect) means you can attack your allies.

Magical effects is a general term for blessings, curses, poison, and acid damage.

Mental attacks are intelligence and even with very high intelligence you still can get them. Even with a blademaster ability I got terrorized and same for 80%+ for shadowwalker and sorceress.

Curses I think are intelligence but I rarely see anyone resist them.
