Need to reset Titan Keep area

I decided to go blow away a few titan's before having the soldiers follow me. Soon I was past the palisades, sneaking around a final group, and into the keep. Then I went back to have the soldiers join me to fight that last group, and whatever else they might stick around for.

 

But they're gone. Looking through the scripts, it's not obvious to me at what point I made them disappear, or how to make them reappear. But it's clear I missed a bunch of hidden-group battles by not following expectations. I seem to remember that Avernum games had a general purpose code to restart a level. Does Avadon? And is this behavior a bug? I thought I could soften up the titans before inviting the soldiers to join me.

OK, looking through the script again, the problem is that all soldiers disappear when you either kill Chief Chanakk (which I did not), or set foot into the keep (which I did, briefly). I should be able to clear the flag for entering the keep, or easier still, just don't let that flag erase the soldiers. With luck, that will get me back in sync.

If you get the troops to help you, then after certain fights there will be more troops joining you as freed prisoners. There aren't any additional battles with the enemies. I've tried it both ways. Also the titans are supposed to be set easier if you get help rather than fight through on your own.

 

You may need to respawn the soldiers from your first entering the zone, but I haven't checked the script.

Yeah, I see I was wrong about where those battles occur. I was looking at battles inside the keep. But there's one interesting glitch. If you sneak past the final set of gate guards, you trigger a script switch that erases the guards upon entering the area. So you can sneak past, sneak out, leave Titan Keep, come back, and they're all gone, never to return. The soldiers and the wretch slaves disappear too. All can be fixed by commenting out the switch checks, leaving, and reentering. At least, I hope all is fixed!

 

I'm still interested in whether there's a general code to reset an area. I thought I remembered that from the Avernum series.
