Final cutscene leak from Heart of the Swarm? I normally don't like spoiling these things for myself, but I hated the Wings of Liberty campaign enough to be tempted to see if Blizzard will continue the downward spiral. If this is video is real, then I think I might just avoid playing the campaign this next time around. This video is either legit or the most elaborate prank I've ever seen.

It's a pity to see one of gaming's landmarks get retroactively cheapened by a terrible sequel(s). Is this what Starwars fans felt like when their prequels were released?

EDIT: vimeo vid was just made private, so here's the leak on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O04RHY6Hx8M

Are you kidding? The single player plot in the original and Brood War was just an excuse so you could have every possible combination of allies and enemies. Especially Brood War.

EDIT: And it's always been about the multiplayer. Just nowadays it's exclusively online instead of LAN.

Just tossing it out there, Arcturus was really the only interesting character in the series. Well, him and maybe Zeratul, but Mengsk is far and away the better of the two.

And yes, the emotion I am feeling now is somewhat what I felt walking out of the theater after TPM and AOTC.

EDIT: Big shoutout to Autodesk Maya, too. Wooo!

Starcraft and Broodwar didn't have fantastic plots, but they were believable and enjoyable. If I recall, Starcraft and Broodwar actually set a benchmark for storytelling (and voice acting) in many different game genres where it hadn't been utilized before. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.

I'm with Dantius -- Arcturus is my favourite character.

. Out of all the options the Terrans have (other than Raynor's Raiders), he's the best. Would you rather be ruled by the Confederates? The UED? Compared to all the other jerks in the series, Arcturus is a saint. I mean, you can count the atrocities he's committed on one hand!

And yes, the voice acting for the series is better than most, especially at the time. The storytelling isn't bad, I'm just saying that it's not the focus. I mostly disagree with this Carmack quote, but there is an element of truth to it:

Quote:
Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important.

The biggest complaint I have with Starcraft's story is how underdeveloped Kerrigan is, especially in the Terrain campaign. They took out this one mission where Raynor and Kerrigan fight together, which means there a grand total of one mission in the original game where Raynor and Kerrigan appear together (well, two, I guess -- but Kerrigan blowing up Raynor's crap doesn't count).

Likewise, they cut out this one mission where Tassadar helps out the Terrans. Cutting this mission is even worse, because Tassadar working with the Terrans is a plot point that gets referred to on more than one occasion.

That mission was so lame though. Tassadar literally shows up and says "yo dawg, we saw that you was fighting and thought that we would help for no reason other than we thought it looked like fun. Ignore, for a second, that I've been indiscriminately Death Staring all of your colonies, and that there's no indication as to why I'd suddenly change my mind about this one. I like your unibrow."

The original video was actually posted three months ago. It might be possible that it was a scrapped ending for the first game. If that's the case, then we'll get a much more interesting second game that doesn't involve the Zerg taking a spiritual vacation to some third world wasteland in order to find themselves.
