Easygoing Eyebeast Dantius
I noticed this problem a while ago, but never guessed at the full extent until now. Every time I boot up a Geneforge game from 1-3, it clears everything- it unregisters, clears all my saves, and erases the preferences. Whenever I try to fix this, whether by moving it to a new file location or uninstalling and reinstalling, nothing happens. Am I just doomed to have to play Geneforge on my laptop from now on? Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
It'd help if you gave us some more information, like what OS you're using.
Easygoing Eyebeast Dantius
I have Windows Vista, a relatively new computer (only like 3 years), it's an HP Slimline. Don't know if that helps.
Well-Actually War Trall A less presumptuous name.
When you uninstall and reinstall, make sure you delete all of your preferences. I don't know how it goes on Windows, but for Mac, application support and preference files often remain after the application itself is removed. Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
Put simply: Vista is paranoid. Did you install the games in the Program Files folder? Vista is very, very picky about altering anything there. You may want to try installing to a different location; for example, I created a folder called "Game Files" in my root directory, and install my games there instead. Easygoing Eyebeast Dantius
Yeah, that might be it. I installed 1-3 in PF, but all my Avernum games and G4 and 5 are in "Spiderweb Software". Thanks!
Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
Yeah, I started doing that over a decade ago, because I wanted an easy way to keep track of what was a game and what wasn't. With Vista as bad an OS as it is, it's a good thing I kept up that habit; sometimes I actually consider buying Windows 7 or downgrading to XP. Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
If his computer is 3 years old and can run Windows Vista, it is not too old for Geneforge, a game released in 2002.
