Do I reach the Avernum series ending simply by defeating the Scourge, or must I defeat two of Melanchion's enemies (not necessarily the Scourge)? Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith Posted December 27, 2009 Share Posted December 27, 2009 Defeating the Scourge won't help Avernum much if the Great Portal is still broken, will it? You have to defeat any two of Melanchion's enemies so that he agrees to help fix the portal. Once you've secured his help, you can keep doing quests for him or kill him or whatever you like, but the game won't end until you head to the Great Portal for the final mission. I haven't tried beating the game without killing the Scourge, but I bet it turns out badly for Avernum. Try it and tell us what happens.
