Singleton in Exile II

Hey guys,

I've been slowly replaying the Exile series, this time with singletons. I finished Exile III pretty easily. Exile was a bit harder (no Avatar) and some of the battles were pretty tedious (assassination of Hawthorne), but still manageable.

Now I'm looking at starting Exile II. Unforutnately, I'm least familiar with E2. I just remember that the early sections of the game are rather linear, with fewer opportunities to explore and grab useful equipment and spells early.

So do any of the vets on this board have any hints on how to build a character that can survive the trip down the river?

When I played Exile 2, I didn't have the registered version, until a few years later, so I was stuck in the same places for a LONG time. So, I trained all my characters to lvl 50, and I went this hut near the barriers that lead to the Empire lands. There I kept on buying the best stuff, like the Magic Halberd (which does the most dammage), rings that made me faster, etc. Then when I registered the game, I had myself the best Party ever; and I never even used the editor. All of my party members were mages or priests, were archers, were warriors(maxed out pole skills), and maxed out strength, dexterety, etc.

------------------------------------------------

The point: Start off your party by giving them pole mastery, and make sure you have magic users. You will need them. The way I trained my party was by killing the friendly army of soldiers that walk around. All I had to do was cast fireball or use a shockwave scroll.

Why'd I write all of this?

Edit: I never even answered the question: Make your singleton have priest and mage skills, plenty of health and manna points, and you may want to max out pole skills for him.

Twin magic wave blades+2, mythril chain mail if you can stand the low defence, boots and rings of speed, avatar, revive, and lots of energy potions. The system is very similar to Exile III, except attacks per round is even more important as you often run into large groups of enemies.

The only downside is, unlike Exile III, you need to have mage spells, at the very least Quickfire and Mind Duel, to finish the game. You can leave it untill latter on and use knowledge brews of course.

The 2nd chapter is actually deceptively easy. The river fort with the big battles with the razordisc throwers and lots of vahnavoi's might give some trouble, but just tackle them a few at a time.

Save up and raid the specialty shop south west of fort draco near the beginning if you're not strong enough. If you can raise your strength to 20 using mist globes and get at least one magic wave blade you'll be set. If you plan on stealing Dahris-Bok's magic wave blade, make sure you take a potion of clarity with you,

I just did a few minutes ago. It's actually easier that way.

Poison, accurate weapons, assassination skill, and wound spells worked a treat.

An update!

I'd forgotten how much stuff there is to do in Chapter I. I just started Chapter II...

Level 19

Str 9, Dex 7, Int 10

97hp/30mp

7 edged

3 mage

4 priest

15 mage lore (wasn't sure if there's anything I'd need it for in Chapter 2)

Iron Chain Mail

Bronze Broadsword +1

Magic Wave Blade (yay bazaar)

Boots of speed (yay bazaar some more)

I'm having a pretty easy time killing stuff, so I figure I'll survive the trip.

btw, Mist globes give you strength?

One kind does. Another kind heals you, and yet another kind hurts you. It's not random -- the same Mist Globe will always produce the same results, so if you use one and it does something bad, throw that one away.

The good thing about the specialty shop SW of Ft Draco is that you can buy as much of each item as you want. So you just have to wait until you find one of the right kind of mist globes, and then bulk buy. If only it was that easy in Exile 1 and 3.

It costs 5600 gold to max stength for an entire party if everyone's strength is 1.
