If you press 't' you'll get the "training" window. When it comes up it shows you the current character's combat skills, and in the lower-left corner it shows how much wood, stone, iron, etc. you have. If you click on the "Magic" tab the lower-left corner shows you the various crafting stuff that you have.

You can heal before you exit the fight. Once it's been won, do your healing, then end the fight. When you end the fight you often get back some energy points, depending on the enemy; this will sometimes offset the energy you spent on healing. That's assuming you have a healing spell; you can also use healing potions, but you don't get them back until you visit a fort or sleep.

I just bought the game but spent 17 hours in the demo version... is there a way to pick up where I left off?
Just start the new version. It will pick up where you left off in the demo.

I bought 3 stone and now I'm regretting not having enough gold to upgrade a fort. : (
Is there a way I can edit my resources? I'm not looking for cheat codes, but a simple bad decision fix.Play on. There's no permanent damage.

If I remember correctly, the Hint Book has the necessary information. I, too, found this part very frustrating.

You have to clear an area before you can move freely through it. Cleared areas are green on the map; areas that you've found but haven't cleared are red. You can go from any cleared area to any area that's adjacent to it, but you can't go through an uncleared area to reach another area. Each area has its own rule for when it's cleared. So look for the green ones!

It's usually called a "carton" of eggs, not a box, in my experience.
Yes, but note that "usually" is not the same as "always". As I said, "In some parts of the US you buy a 'box of eggs'."

That's certainly interesting, but I'd definitely say contemporary usage of "box" almost always refers to a rectangular shape. Seems more like a prescriptive definition than a descriptive one, in other words.
In some parts of the US you buy a "box of eggs". While that's sort of rectangular, all the indentations that hold the individual eggs make it definitely not rectangular when viewed from the front or the side. (Don't get me started on buying "a dozen of eggs")

Click "Buy Buildings and Shops" and select the entry to repair the portal.

"When I saw what happens when creatures die, I rolled my eyes."
This was one of the very first ideas I got when designing the game. It was meant to be reminiscent of a tabletop RPG. I love this effect and every time I see it I smile.
I love the way creatures move during combat. Every time I see one hopping from square to square I smile.

One thing I'd like is the ability to see what you've built where. I build things as I need them or as I can afford them, and towards the end have no idea which of my 7 forts is the one missing the smithy.
If you’re in a fort you can click in the “Buy Buildings and Shops” button. In the dialog box, if you hover the mouse over the name of a building you’ll get a popup with information about the building. Near the bottom of that popup it tells you whether the current fort has one.
Of course, that still means that you have to wander from fort to fort to find the one you’re after.

This is the only report of this we've had, so you might have a corrupted game file. We'll look for your support email.
It’s happened to me twice. After a force-quit the saved file opens fine.
EDIT: that was with the demo version. Hasn't happened with the full version after just about as many hours of play.

There are piercing crystals and stoneshatter scrolls in the Slime Pit. You don't need to know those spells to get to the blocked areas.
No, there's no particular order required.

The scroll is definitely in special items. When I first approached the castle, the text just said that the guards standing there ran away in fear. Not being able to do this part of the story correctly impacts my gaining the reward from Knight in Sharimik, so I am pretty annoyed at the mix-up. I don't think I have an earlier save that won't make me crazy having to go back so far.
If the guards ran away in fear, that suggests that your party was too powerful. I don't know if that applies here, but I've certainly seen it happen with bands of unicorns when I went back to do some cleanup late in the game.

This sounds like the Ancient Crypt. There is a way out; keep exploring.
If you just want to get out,
Spoilergo into the room in the middle of the wall to the west. Trust the statue. Once you find the basin, it will give you an enhancement, Enlightenment (if I remember the name correctly), that helps you solve the exit puzzle.
Oh, and to see where you are, press W to get the World Map; you'll see an icon that shows your location along with indicators for the various places you've found.

It's easy to miss him.
"Miss him" as in both "not find him" and "try to click on him while he runs away".

It just happened to me. I got those pyrric gauntlets and well, wanted to keep them for time when I will have 90% protection for acid. So i left them around the entrance to Formello. One time I entered it... and puff! Nothing. What's kinda strange, cause loot from dungeons never disappears. Posted it just to warn you.
They're radioactive. They decayed.

are there retrainers in the game?
or alternatively a retrain cheat?
There's a character editor; it's turned off by default, and you have to enable it from the options screen. Once you've done that, you can use Shift-D to bring up the cheat box, and type "editor".

thank you!
it isn't on the main site yet (or not that i have seen)
It's on the main site now.

lothyr, tone down the rhetoric. It's not okay to call people "whiners and bed wetters" just because they have different preferences in games.
Um, that message was clearly intended to be humorous. And it says "my party of whiners and bed wetters"; it doesn't apply that to anyone else.

I got mine after I had made potions and saved game and few days later opened game and medal was awarded.
So there must be a medals review committee; that would take a few days.

You can try it for free. If you don't like it, don't buy it. -

There is a way out, and it doesn't involve tool use. Go west to the statue and look where it points.
