I'll stick with the majority opinion - combat is more challenging and varied, at least in the small part I've seen so far. A couple of previously weak skills, such as First Aid, have been upgraded. Overall, a good turn-based action RPG without much micromanagement. Returning to a fresh incarnation of Exile/Avernum after all these years has charm all by itself. I think the combination of good parts from Avernum and Geneforge worked out, although I must admit I was dismayed when the first screenshots came out.

A much, much, much greater problem, of course, is the removal of the bikini babe PC graphic.

Too early to tell. It's been a while since I played either Geneforge or Avernum, so the "Avernumforge" mixture didn't bother me much.

There's nothing wrong with your choice. Good education and reputation aren't really worth the XP hit, IMHO.

I'm experimenting a bit with Linux right now... Will Spiderweb's games run on Wine (a Windows emulatior for Linux)? I could try it myself, of course, but I could save myself the trouble if someone else has already tried.

Reinstall DirectX, or install a newer version of it.

You can't get their spells by buying the fake rings, and if you only want to loot their temple, you can use the fight/end combat exploit instead.

Hehe, I suspect I will need a new RPG fix before GF2 and BoA come out, so I'll probably buy Nethergate as well.

I've really only played the demo a bit, but for some reason, I downloaded the latest version, and was slightly disappointed by the fact that you can no longer start with spells above level 6 without cheating. Hero of Old, Heartshock and Break Barrier are no longer available when you create a new party...

This bug is in Avernum 3 as well...
