  2. Light switches. They can still be missed. There's a difference, too, between playing well and playing like a machine. Wasn't it Jeff who wrote about cheating on World of Warcraft? Saying that the majority of those using bots to manually level up and gather were doing so because it's so damn tedious? There's no challenge in manually searching for secret doors or traveling from place to place looking for that ONE last herb. A solid example of this dichotomy is King's Quest and Phantasmagoria. King's Quest let you click on everything without any hint as to what was clickable. Very frustrating. Phantasmagoria highlighted your cursor when hovering over something actionable. The game was still difficult, but it wasn't _as_ frustrating. Games are meant to be fun and challenging. Anything that detracts from those goals by way of unskilled labor (bumping into walls) is antithetical to the purpose of a game.
  3. So, I accepted Gladwell's geas and slayed the dragon under Harkin's Landing. I did this before killing Lysstak. I killed everyone in Harkin's Landing, and after not being able to please the Slith incantrix in Exodus, I slayed him half the town there hoping to get a bracelet. No such luck. I briefly ran around Tranquility, and I assume the tunnels will eventually lead me to Solberg, but am I going to be forced to continue to kill like this? So far the geas has been more a curse than a gift.
  4. Ah, I see. It's cool, your wicked signature makes up (explains?) the weirdness.
  5. Oh, wow. That makes things pretty easy. I think I'll choose Shanker's hideout, as she seems quite the helpful character. (Yes, I've already deceived the Empire once; screw their rule, I want magic!) Thanks The High Evolutionary and Nalyd.
  6. Is there a place in Avernum, as in the original Exile, where one can safely store items for later retrieval?
  7. Ah, fun. I messed up the scuttler one as well then. Is there a way to remove those quests from my journal? It's irritating to see tasks there that I can't finish. Thanks for the link Dikiyoba.
  8. Hi all. Early game there is a quest called Rat Bounty in which you must kill 20 of the Rat Lord's rats. I cleared out the Rat Lord's caves and slew him before accepting that quest. Now there are no more rats to kill and the mayor hasn't noticed the rat population has gone down. Have I screwed up this quest? Or is there something I'm missing? Have others run into situations whereby they completed the content of a quest but were not rewarded for it because of the order in which they did things? That's one thing I've always loved about Exile/Avenum -- the game is so vast you can keep going and going, not realizing that you're already doing things people would like to have rewarded you for.
