  1. Thanks for all the ideas, but I don't think I'm gonna go through all of that trouble, since I still got WinXP on my stationary computer, and I would just have to toss the save files around all the time anyway. This IS supposed to be my all work no play computer
  2. Ok, I have installed Wine, but it seems unable to install Avernum. Is this because it is only able to run Windows applications and not install them? EDIT2: To answer my own question. I am a retard - I just had to right-click the .exe and choose Open with Wine, and then it installed just fine - I'll report back on the actual performance. EDIT3: Running it in WINE turns out to be very slow, so I think I'll just play Avernum on my stationary only.. EDIT: Some system information: I have switched a former windows machine to Ubuntu to increase performance - I am currently in the "demo" version, so windows is still in there somewhere. My harddisk has 27 GB (only 12 free), so space is very limited. I would prefer to be completely windows free, but who wants to lose compatibility?
  3. Hi Everyone, I just installed Ubuntu on my laptop in the hope that it would run a bit smoother so I don't have to buy a new one. But a laptop without Avernum is kind of pointless. I am a complete newbie to Linux, so can anyone help me out here? ps. don't assume that I know anything.. Thanks
  4. I just found out. I got a meager amount of experience points, about a hundred I think.
  5. In Gladwell's reward room, there are these basins with water. I drink it and gain "insight". Does anyone know what this actually does?
  6. Though Starship Troopers is a hilariously crappy movie I'm looking forward to chopping/zapping/shooting down legions of chitrach. NICE! Oh, how I envy mac users...
  7. Thanks everyone. I'll take a look at all this when I've gotten some more inspiration (=played more scenarios ).
  8. I am on a regular, mundane WindowsXP PC. Thralni, I can't find the 3D Editor for windows on the page you linked.
  9. Hello everyone. I've just registered BoA and I want to try to make some scenarios myself. But I have no experience except for an invader game I made in 8. grade.. So I was wondering if anyone could take the time to give me some advise about every aspect of designing. Which applications should I download, what should I read, and so on.
  10. Sorry for being late for this great discussion.. and late buying the game. I am actually buying BoA right now - that is I await the confirmation e-mail and my key! I want to play now!! Anyway, just wanted to say *slash wave* to all of you BoA'ers. I am really glad to see such enthusiasm, because that means, hehe, more great scenarios for me But how could it not sale well? The concept is nothing but brilliant and the scene is.. well.. AVERNUM!! Whatever, just my contribution to your faith in the game
  11. Hmmm.. what a shame.. I love old school fantasy music like there is in the intros and in many old games. But I suppose if that's his style there's nothing to do about it. On the other hand I kind of agree with him. I tend to turn off all music in games and play my own in the background - which, I guess, I'll continue to do..
  12. Ok.. I just proved to myself at least I am in fact a completely inept n00b of DOOM. I hit the back button on my mouse just as I had written a nice thought out (and my first) post here. Of course it's about music, specifically the lack of it in the previous Avernums. A shame I think, especially since the intros are of high musical quality. So my plea is: Include more music in the upcoming Avernum 5. I hope the community will support this bold suggestion enough to at least make Jeff consider it. ps. I found no better place to discuss A5 than in the A4 forums, where everyone else seems to do it.
