  1. I talked to Yannick back at Avadon, and he broached the subject of wanting to look for information at the temples (don't recall his exact words); I responded that I'd be happy to help him with that. However, this talk did not start any quest, and when I went back to Sebrica's ruined temple, we still cannot enter, Yannick just says "if only I could get in"... did I pursue this talk wrong, or is there some other trigger later to start that quest? I'm actually looking forward to searching for historic data; a little archaeology would be a welcome change from constant battles...
  2. OH MY!!! GIFTS!!!! I shoulda known, of course, since I've been through all the other Avernum worlds, but it's a joy to encounter them after all!!!!!! krzap.. KrrrZhaaP .... KRRRZAPPP!!!!!!!!! The only tribute the mighty dragon wants from them is for them to stay away!! HAAAHAAAA!!!! (okay, I'll stop dancing around now... You're cute!!)
  3. Okay, just for curiousity, I went back and tried this again, this time staying on Normal. My characters are L27 to L30. I use Arcane Shield and Prismatic Shield, Enduring Armour and Steel Skin on all, as well as the standard C and D spells. I also used ShieldBreaker and Leg Sweep a couple of times, which *did* seem to help. End result: at end of battle, only my mage was still standing (with about 5 HP left), though the ogres managed to survive. I've found that, if my priest is close enough to have Heal All and Unshackle Mind succeed, he is also within range of the giant's area-effect attack, whatever it is. That's why he ends up down every time. And, of course, healing elixers heal less damage than the creature does each round, which makes them useless... I guess I'll be satisfied with having survived at this point!! The reward *is* nice...
  4. hmmph... After: - changing difficulty to Easy - buffing everyone to the max - luring the giant into the other room, where two of the ogres came over to help - trying shield smash and leg thingie, neither of which seemed to do anything I still ended up with two ogres and two players down, and ended up having to cheat (ouchouchouch) to keep the other two alive long enough to get him to submit. I guess these apocalyptic battles really aren't my cup of tea...
  5. hmmm... that's a good idea, drawing him out and getting the ogres involved!! I just dove into the room, which usually is okay on Normal difficulty, once I've buffed up as necessary. I'll try it again!! I haven't been using those warrior combat moves much; I've read alot about them, but when I tried using them previously (admittedly, when I was *much* lower level), it seemed like once I used one, I couldn't use it again for so long that the battle ended. Maybe I'll try them again now...
  6. I'm playing on normal. I amped up my party as much as I good (which I *thought* was alot), went in and went some 25 or 30 rounds with this thing... and had barely put a dent in him before he blew us away!!! Has anyone else managed this creature, or should I just skip this one and go on my way??? No spell does more than 30 points damage to him, and that's barely enough to show on his HP bar...
  7. Wow!! I never realized that I had to do certain types of damage at each phase... I just attacked, and things worked out - however, I happen to have a sword which does poison damage (don't recall where I got it)... otherwise, I'd have had even *bigger* headaches, apparently!!
  8. Ahhh, and I see what I did wrong, at least wr2 Tiajuana; I had done *one* set of quests for her, but she had the separate tower quests, which I'd missed the first time around... all happy now!!
  9. Okay, so how do I *actually* obtain this spell?? I've read at least three supposed locations for it, but none of them seem to be accessible: 1. Highground... I *think* that's the spellbook which is hidden behind the barrier that cannot be removed by DB gems... duh, requires DB to get DB, useful - unless that's *not* the book I think it is?? 2. Solberg's Tower - I've done every quest there that I know of, never saw a DB book, nobody offers to sell it to me. 3. EPIRON-BOK - well, I just spoke with him, so maybe something will come of that. The frustrating thing is, I know I probably won't get back to the various barriers that I've already bypassed; I guess I *could* have been keeping a separate list of barriers that I left behind, but I didn't...
  10. OHO!!! And what truth ye speaks!!! A little patience goes a long way (I read somewhere, but obviously don't know myself...)
  11. Okay, went to Thalants, got the quest to deal with the Dark Presence, went down to do so, buffed up everyone and started the battle. After a long, apocalyptic battle, I finally defeat the damned creature, get some kind of a message, but the Vengeful Whatevers that it summoned are still there - and when I kill them, they re-form again fully healed!! How do I end this battle???
  12. Okay, I think I understand... Swamp Monster *is* a job board quest, and (as several people said) probably not that important. I was confusing it with the Vhorr quest, which sounds more important. hmmm... I wonder if I already met that creature?? I'll have to go talk to Vhorr again... Thanks for the comments!!
  13. I landed a boat on a peninsula, some time back, and got a message about marshy things coming up to meet me (I don't recall exact words). I wasn't at *all* ready for such an encounter, so I quit combat, survived one round, jumped on our boat and high-tailed it out of there, trailing "Yikes"s behind us as we fled!! Then, later on, I got the related quest, and eventually went back by land to deal with this. Now, when I walk out on the peninsula, I again get the message about something coming to deal with me, but no matter how long I circle around on that peninsula, nothing ever appears... Did I break that quest by fleeing the first time?? That's a pretty key quest, I think...
  14. Oh, Shoot!!! I *do* have my own boat somewhere, don't I?? I wonder why I didn't come across it when I walked along the shoreline?? Anyway... nevermind!!
  15. I've gotten the FarFlinger quest from the appropriate person, and am told that he's "just south of this area". However, "just south of this area" requires crossing a river, and the only way I see, so far, to get to that area is a long, round-about route west-far_south-back_east-north... are there any more-direct routes to get there, such as a working boat, underground path, Gem of Flying, or any such?? That land route looks to be a long, difficult slog!!
  16. Well, at a minimum, I think it would be reasonable if quest-related items are found even if you don't have the quest yet (at A5 did with the Chitrach claws)... until you obtain the quest, they are just garbage items; once you have the quest, they then have meaning. I collected over 25 Chitrach claws before I ever look at the related job board, yet I was still able to complete the quests. I sort of feel like the issues with the earlier quests were simply oversights in implementation.
  17. ummm... Wow, there *are*, aren't there?!?! I had just assumed that they didn't work that well, because of the various comments (in other messages) about the tedium of walking all the way back to town just to heal. I guess those were people who don't like using cheat codes... ?? Anyway, nevermind... I should have tried those codes before I started writing code!! hmph...
  18. Is it still against the rules here, to post links to game editors?? I wrote a console utility which recharges all HP/SP to max with only a couple of keystrokes - It's a great alternative to plodding all the way to town and back, just to heal and recharge. Can I post it here, or alternately, post it on my website and link to it here?? I think alot of folks would find it handy...
  19. the Nephil's name is Sarramor (just so searches will find something)
  20. Quote: Spoiler You can't enter Tranquility until you get rid of Gladwell's geas or you kill the drake. Whoa, I just discovered that!! I'm glad you gave the previous hint about removing the geas, otherwise I would have had to go back and replay the whole game, because I am NOT going to kill that poor drake!! I put your code in z100Texodusdlg.txt, at the section that dealt with opening the gate; it worked great!! And I think I *will* go look at those BofA docs, just for my edification!!
  21. Ahhh... it sounds like I'm *way* too low level for this region, then... I don't have most of those higher-level spells yet, just got Mass Heal. Okay, we'll go back there when we have more scars!!
  22. Wow, game-hacking has sure changed from the old days, when you'd just edit a data file!! For now, I just left the drake alone; I didn't (couldn't) free him, and I had no intention of killing him if I don't have to. We'll see whether I can stick with that decision later on, but for now it'll do. Otherwise, I'll try Ishad Nha's hacking technique to undo my earlier error; that's a better decision than starting over, and having to re-play all the territory that I just played...
  23. Okay, this is the second time that I've encountered an area that's filled with those volcanic vents which pound the entire party all at once... This one's in a cave near Harkin's Landing. So... is that just a game-mechanics way of saying "get out, and STAY out!!", or am I actually supposed to be able to survive in here and do something???
