  1. No one has reported doing this particular challenge before? Wow. That's unexpected.

Anyways, I suspect the way it will work is that my Agent, Diane, will need less intelligence, as there is a bunch of essence freed up by not having creations, and some more endurance, to make up for the lost meat shield.

Anyways, only thing big I've done so far is the abandoned school, and that was tough. I had to get things one on one, or I was dead. I defeated Rawbone by aggroing his group, and then running far away enough that they only came in staggered groups of one or two. Rawbone was pure luck. I had to hope that his hit wouldn't kill me, pod heal, and then strike.

    This will be interesting.

  2. Thought of replaying G1 for the umpteenth time with a twist: a solo agent.

While solo agents are the norm in all the other games, due to the lack of spells in the first I usually played with one creation, usually starting with a fyora and sticking with fire creations till the final cryodrayk.

How difficult would it be to pull of a totally solo agent? Not that bad? Terribly difficult? Actually easier?

  3. Alternate title: A Tale of Two Assassinations

Just thought I'd highlight an excellent example of writing from our dear RPG overlord Jeff.

I'm on my first complete (don't ask) play through of G5. Finally have gotten to the Gazaki-Uss area of the game. Two kill person quests.

The first one was given to me by a Servile in a shaper jail cell. He wanted me to punish the one who betrayed him, another servile named Roga. After arriving at the border of Gazaki, I found out that Roga was the head of the local cultist group. Managed to rat him out and have his (formally) loyal cultists beat the crap out of him for me. Done deal, ding dong, the scum is dead.

Another quest could be done in the same area. This hit was ordered by the Travokite drayk, on the drayk who ratted him out. When I found her though, she was a puttering technician, minding her own business. She got rid of the Travokite because she understandably believed that without shaping the rebellion would be crushed, and so would her species. Not all of this was stated outright, but subtly inferred. All in all, a decent creature who minded her own business and had no use for the typical drayk arrogance. When I actually thought about killing her, I started to get a sick feeling in my stomach. Ultimately, I couldn't go through with it.

This kind of stuff is why I love the Geneforge series, and so admire Jeff's writing style.

  4. Is master1 correct as to the name? I can't see a file called gforscen.txt in the scripts folder.

Edit: NVM, being an idiot. It was there.

Further edit: From what I can tell, the standalone creations you can pick up (friendly rat, Hryk, abandoned thahd) don't seem to be specifically defined in the scripts I found. Could the friendly rat be defined by the ordinary rat scripts? If so, what would be a good way to find out?

Edit: Got it! The friendly rat is defined by the ordinary rat script. I also now know how to up the accuracy of its attack (and add a little damage probably). Doing the same for the huge roamer. What I wasn't able to find was the definition for the default accuracy, sans affection by ability level. Oh well.

  5. At the very least, could somebody point me out to where the general (i.e. not map) scripts are kept? I notice that there is a creature guide on GameFAQs, so somebody was able to find the creature scripts.

Edit: I've checked the script folder for G2, and while it has a lot of script files, that seem to define npc behavior and map settings, rather than NPC stats. Can anyone issue clarification?

  6. I have a problem. You see, in G2 there is the cutest little friendly rat you ever did see. The problem is that while some leveling takes care of his health issue, what never goes away is the little guy's horrible accuracy. I woves the rat so much that I want to fix that issue. Anyone know where in the game files I could change his base accuracy, and how?

—Alorael, who would worry if you flip control boxes and actually find no pylons in the entire area that have been deactivated and definitely get the message that your Mechanics is high enough. And you have to search hard for those deactivated pylons even when they are off.

That's exactly what happened. Absolutely no pylons switched off anywhere. I definately had enough mechanics. I was able to flip all the switches that I was able to get to. Eventually, I couldn't find anymore, given that no pylons were switching off.

]There are a few pylons that don't have switches, but you should be able to pick up all the major loot and get through the area without needing to set any off. There's a crate or two that are very difficult to get to without setting off a pylon, but they only have a few junk items in them anyway.

That's the thing. When I flip switches, absolutely no pylons turn off. If I wish to go anywhere guarded by pylons, I have to set them off. None just turn off on their own, without me setting them off. There are two maps where I cannot complete them because of this issue.
  9. Even if I turn off every single switch in the area, the pylons are still active. The only way to turn them off is by walking through them. They go off once, then deactivate. But only if I don't go to other areas. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think this is how its supposed to work.

  10. Are you sure? The thing is, they go off and damage me before they turn off. I seem to remember in previous runs them shutting off completely with the flick of switches. It worked that way in other, earlier maps.

  11. Got a problem with map triggers.

I am in the underwater sea caves, in the second act. Its filled with those wards that kill you if you get near them. I have flipped a number of switches that are supposed to turn them off. They don't turn off. Instead, I have to step next to them once, then they deactivate. When I leave the map, they reactivate. This is rather annoying.
