  1. Wow that's great, I'm glad somebody managed to do it. I'll have a fool round later and see if i can come up with something similar. You should post that on the script codex or something, see if anyones interested.
  2. Hey I was just wondering about the possiblity of imbuing an item with either a script or function that would give the effect of invisibility for a player. I've considered trying to toy with the set_town_hostile calls so that when the cloak or charm is equipped all monsters would become neutral. This is all just theory at the moment but I'm wondering if anyone else has either thought of a similar idea or achieved this effect. -cheers
  3. Its an interesting solution but i think I'm probably going to take the easier route and just write one character out of the story. (Maybe not that much easier)
  4. Quote: The brooches were communication devices. I don't think it's ever made clear whether they were used for communicating with each other, with the surface, or both, but given that they're capable of teleporting someone to the surface, they're probably capable of communicating with it too I'd forgoten all about them, I really should replay it again sometime. Anyway I'm not sure there was much communication with the surface. I always envisaged the expedition as a Heart of Darkness style nightmare with a bunch of what presumably were the Empires finest warriors and mages trapped in a living hell, cut off, isolated, with equpiment failing that sort of thing. I took the purpose of the expedition to reflect not just the whole man vs nature thing but also the contrast in the war between Avernum and the Empire later, with ingenuity trumping brute strength. Still the cave frescoes of earlier humans are pretty interesting.
  5. Quote: Who reported back then? For some reason, I took "to a man and a woman" to mean that one man and one woman, ie. two explorers survived; everyone else was killed That was my initial reaction, either way its seems like an unusual choice of wording. I'd be happy to write a quick update on Thranli when I get the time, if anyone can think of anything else important that should be included just post here.
  6. Thanks Kelandon, I completly forgot about the notes on your website. By the way it mentions the date of the first visitaton as fifty years prior to the events of Avernum 1 putting it at around the year 767, although there are mentions of frescos and cave paintings on the walls of the Crypt of Drath possibly pushing the first date of human settlement back sometime. Apart from Demonslayer, the Orb, Smite, Scrioth and Korthax were there any other significant items left behind by the explorers?
  7. That's quite right, Julio in Almaria gives you a quest to find the location. From memory the peninsula was either just above or below Lost Bahsikava near the centre of Avernums cave system. Knowing where they started can give us an idea of how the expedition split off into several directions, Thranli went south, some went north to Motrax and so on.
  8. Thanks for that, I don't know why but I took "to a man and a woman" literally. Still its fertile ground for a (or another) scenario to be made.
  9. Thanks for that Drakefyre, Its a pity its gone, still, back to work.
  10. I'm curious if anyone can remember any instances where the game mentions the path the first expedition took. I haven't played Avernum 1 for ages but from memory a group were creamed by bassilisks, another got on the wrong side of Motrax and Thralni drowned. Also there's mention of the expedition being reduced "to a man and a woman," is there anything further said on the matter? Oh almost forgot, does anyone know where the names Scrioth and Korthax are mentioned specifically?
  11. Fair enough it isn't silly after all, Still is there a call to add an actual character (with portrait, character screen ect.) into a party as opposed to putting in an NPC which you don't have direct control over. This was used several times in Avernum 1 and 2 but I don't recall seeing it in the editor documentation for blades. I thought the call function might have been discontinued and replaced with the two NPC slots. This isn'tcrucial just helpful for plot purposes.
  12. Howdy, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the call to add charcters to slots 2,3, and 4 as for whetever reason I can't see it in the documentation. Normally I'd just cherrypick this from someones elses script but everyone seems to have jumped on the slot 5/6 bandwagon which is just silly.
  13. Sure, I'd love a copy loki (underscore) 72 (at) hotmail.com
  14. This is certainly food for thought, i'll make sure I consider these opinions when (or if) i ever overcome my natural ability for excessive procrastination and get around to finishing my scenario. Thanks to everyone who expressed an opinion
  15. Thats a good point actually and I probably shouldn't have phrased the question in terms of good versus evil. But speaking more along the lines of scenarios such as ASR where its more a question of the relative power of both sides (seeing as both Stalker and the Empire aren't so morally pure,) when you have the "the establishment" versus a rebel group, a lot of people (myself included) feel sympathy for the underdog and tend to give them a run through first, regardless of whether the more powerful side has a legitimate motive for their actions. I was kind of interested in finding out whether there are many players who do the opposite and play through the more powerful (and/or) less moral side first.
  16. I just thought i'd post to ask people that if offered a choice in an avernum scenario between two sides what would it take for you to pick the morally evil one? It seems to me that in most scenarios along the lines of ASR its the 'rebel' side that is played through first and i need some ideas on how to maybe bribe a player to take the completely throughly evil and morally reprehensible side for a test drive. In particular say that I gave the party lavish financial rewards what are some ideas for creative ways that they could spend it?(like being able to buy Hawkes Manse in avernum 3)
  17. That's an interesting idea although I don't really have much (read any) experience with macros. I'll check it out but for the time being I think i'll just play round with text wrangler and that other app mentioned in the scenario workshop.
  18. damn oh well i didn't really think that there was but hey you never know
  19. Which is exactly what myself and anyone else with half a brain has been doing. Now in case you didn't realise, I was asking if any other way existed (which I doubt but thought it was worth asking)
  20. Hey everyone I've just spent the last few hours plugging away desperately at my keyboard writing pulitzer prize winning dialogue for my scenario in the hope that no one will notice the lack of scripting, and detail, and terrain, and towns, and a lot of other important stuff. However It seems that with every line of dialogue I write I get more and more fed up with typing /pasting /organising filler like "state = -1; personality = 7;" So my question is can anyone recommend a good mac dialogue editor of some kind that could help in saving time with minor things of that nature. Any recommendations would be appreciated
  21. thanks both of you for the fix now i can finally use the editor without heavy medication
  22. I've just been to the website but whether I click to download the older version of the editor (0.9) or the current one (0.12), the file downloaded is the version 0.12 edition. I'm not sure why this is happening but is there possibly an alternate site where i could download the older version of the editor?
  23. hi im a long time lurker first time poster A few days ago i began using the 3d blades editor and let me tell you it was like a whole new world where designing towns was a joy and even placing walls was tolerable. Now i'd be living happily ever after except for the small issue of whenever i place a floor or object tile in my scenario, the editor also places a second identical tile around ten squares away from the orignal. It's like the program's conciously screwing around with me and even though i've been trying to fix this for some time the editor is still sitting there silently mocking me even as i write this post So anyhow I've been wracking my brains for ages over this one but I still can't figure out why this is occuring and how to stop it so i thought i might post on the boards to see if anyone else has encountered this and could maybe lend me a hand cheers
