  1. I used the elevators in Lyssak's lair to trap the dopplegangers of Lyssak one by one. In the first instance, the poor guy stood at the top with my group at the bottom and just let himself be killed, despite his working himself into a frenzy with all kinds of battle disciplines. The second one jumped down onto the elevator when it was one notch down, but I still had to deal with only him as the real Lyssak stayed near his throne room. I was also able to go back to the green pool to regenerate after defeating each version of Lyssak in turn. Pressing the down button on the elevator while in combat also immediately brought the whole group onto the elevator regardless of their location in the top level. Was this anticipated by Jeff as a tactic, or was I just exploiting a bug?
  2. I've been playing the game through for the second time with a full party on torment, and everything was going fine until I got the Drake Pillars, where I am completely stymied. Is there a sudden increase in difficulty there, or is there something else happening? I didn't notice a change when I played in normal the first time around. For example, I can't get rid of the rats on the elevator even with an area charm spell and the unstable masses overwhelm me.
  3. I've pretty much finished the Vahnati lands but have had no luck finding the Lord yet. Any hints? (I have not helped them with their clearing out of Muck.)
  4. Where is the former? I'm told that there is an entrance to a tunnel which will take me to Gladwell. Also, I finished the stuff at the lake of trials but can only open the box with the avenger's ring in it. Am I missing something?
  5. On the theory that occupying armies need to be squeaky clean, I have not stolen anything. Am I crazy? I always have a shortage of potions and little money to buy spells, although I relentlessly sell stuff I can't wear--but might need later--unlike in the Genforge games where I was carrying around gobs of stuff. Maybe I'll replay as storm troopers and be nasty to everyone.
  6. I figured out the plumbing here and I've gotten upstairs, and into the elevated crypt, but I can't get into the area on the west basement that has the three gates, the box in the center, and the hidden passageway going west from it. Any hints?
  7. I'm about to steal his notes after defeating the cheeseballs and I think someone has already mentioned to me--I'm not into the Amana lands yet--that they would like the notes but I forget who.
  8. I'm missing finding Lark. Can you tell me where he is?
  9. Two questions: I fixed Shankar's machine and it seemed like she wanted me to do something else but I can't get her to talk about it. I did report her to the Sergeant. There's a spirit near the east wall of the SE quadrant of Tranquility that is unnerving a young woman who lives near there. She says that it is being held in place by a spell created by Solberg's first deputy but I can't get anyone to talk about the spirit and the doorway into what I think is its lair requires a 90 tool use. Any suggestions?
  10. My technique for this is to go into the editor, raise the level, go back and see if I can now learn the spell and keep raising it until I can, then revert to the original game and go out and get enough points to raise my level to what is needed. Clumsy, but it works and is not really cheating--although reasonable minds could disagree about that.
  11. I got Thompson on my side by going through again the steps to finding him, i.e., talking to the mages in Blosk and Fort Remote. Maybe that would work for your problem also.
  12. I did something similar with the editor and although I can get back to Thompson he is now my enemy and even resetting hostile towns doesns't seem to eliminate his anger.
  13. You need to kill her to get into the room. There's not much there.
  14. I seem to be having trouble finding the pelts. Any suggestions?
  15. I'm trying to find the passage to the raised area where the Formarians are under Galag Trav but I can't find it. I've gotten the fury helm and I found a secret passage going west in the northern most area but it leads to a locked door. Any hints out there?
  16. With regard to offing the unbound, doesn't the ray gizmo in the south center have something to do with defeating it?
  17. I've thoroughly cleared out the breeding pits except for the unbound one. At that point, about three weeks agao, I dropped the game and did my taxes. Any suggestions on how to defeat him? (her?)
  18. I've explored this and really found nothing other than a grumpy drakon chained up. Am I missing something? I can't get into any of the rooms that are locked. I'm a 4-star rebel.
  19. I'm up near Northforge and have a quest that involves a cave in Frostwood. But I can't find it. I'm supposed to go west from the drakon's village and then south before the gates. But that appears to put me in the Northforge, where I am once more supposed to bicker with the drakons. I love the snow by the way. I'm still looking to buy skis up in the mountains and take a vacation from the questing.
  20. Are repeated bombardments of wrack and essence shackles cumulative, or am I wasting my time tossing these things more than once?
  21. He's the only one of the three guardians I haven't gotten rid of yet, but I have killed off all of those immobile minds. Shaftoe, however, slaughters me with these energy explosions. Am I missing something here?
  22. I'm downstairs with the Monarch. I've learned about his control baton from that other lapsed shaper, but that's it. I don't have my own baton or anything like that. He and his creations seem to be slaughtering me. Am I missing something here? BTW, I'm a rebel with stakovite leanings, but I'm also trying to form my own splinter party in the area. I figure I can get at least a few votes in the Illyra parliament.
  23. I'm wrapping up a re-play of the three Avernum games also. Anyone out there know which game uses the most keys as special items?
  24. When I played through a second time in torment, I found the shockwave bow by far the most useful weapon since it disabled the villans by stunning them, making it impossible for them to hit back while the rest of the party hacked away. And you don't need much archery skill to use it. If spiderweb is going to rebalance the game in the future, I would recommend making the shockwave bow a little less effective.
