  1. I went upstairs and took the only stairway down (that I can see) and here's a screenshot of the area it led to. http://steamcommunity.com/id/BloomingLilac/screenshot/870748015991211777 The blocked area is barely visible in that shot.
  2. Yes, it's from the lowest level. I've taken a new screenshot with the automap open. I'm not sure why I'm not finding the stairway down to this area or a wheel to open that gate. If I recall correctly, I found a way through in a previous save. Thank you for replying and trying to help me. http://steamcommunity.com/id/BloomingLilac/screenshot/870748015991177506
  3. I'm in the Nephilim Fortress. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to open this area that's blocked off? Here's a screenshot: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1219496381
  4. Browsing through my journal, I noticed that I had the first two encounters with the demon recorded. There was no update when I killed him. Does anyone know how to edit game files to force the quest to update? I've never used any cheats or edited my text files. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi. I found the Cackling Demon before talking to Captain Skye. After he disappeared for the second time, I found the captain and mentioned to her that I chased the demon away. (This was the only dialogue option available about the demon. I didn't know killing the demon was a quest until I looked at a walkthrough. It's not even listed as a quest in my journal.) Captain Skye mentioned that he'd gone north, scaring some refugees along the way, and she told me to get rid of him. Now that he's dead, there's no dialogue option with Captain Skye. Did I botch the quest by attempting to kill the demon before I received the quest? That normally doesn't happen in these games. I can do a quest before accepting it and still get a reward later on. (I've completed some job board quests before getting to the job board, for example.) The demon dropped the Mercuric Leather and a Fiery Wand. I suppose I can force myself to continue playing without getting a reward from Skye. Any help will be appreciated.
  6. Thanks! Like you, I forget what items I need to save for each game in this series.
  7. Also, do I need to save emeralds and rubies later in the game for crafting? I normally sell those, but I'm about to leave the Tower Colony and head west on this save. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for replying. I've been all over the map, but I've never found any crystals labeled as "quality". I find plenty of the other 4 types, though. I'll try having a beautiful crystal in my inventory with the other items to see if that works.
  9. According to Kimmer's recipe book, I need quality crystals for wands. I haven't found anything except the 3 regular crystals and focusing crystals. Where can I get the right crystals for the recipes? Does it mean "beautiful crystals"? I've had focusing crystals in my inventory, but I never have the correct components when I click on her. Thanks in advance.
  10. I remembered another question: Are there no portal pylons at Fort Remote and Patrick's Tower? I've looked everywhere at FR and didn't see one, but there's a dark area in Patrick's Tower near the laboratory and Patrick's office. (I believe it's south of Patrick's office?)
  11. Thanks a million for your help! I'll go ahead and do the Limoncelli quest then. I'm glad to know I can reach the chest in the Spiral Pit eventually. (My priest currently has Level 2 of the MM spell.) At least I'll know what I need for my next playthrough in vahnatai lands.
  12. Hi. I have a few questions: 1. Do I need to kill Limoncelli to get a Level 2 Dispel Barrier spell if I've already learned it in Pyrn's Tower, or is there somewhere else I can learn it? I'm trying to finish the Purging the Spiral quest, but I can't do it without a more powerful spell. 2. In the Spiral Pit, there's a treasure chest with rocks around it. Is there a switch in the wall that I don't see, or is that chest unreachable? 3. I've already been to vahnatai lands. Is it impossible to return so that I can dispel the barriers outside Pyrn's Tower? I think I went to their lands too early in the game because it was a struggle for my party on normal difficulty. My party didn't have many spells at all during that quest, let alone a Dispel Barrier spell. I see some bodies outside the tower that I'd like to loot, if it's not too late. 4. In the Vahnatai Fortress, there's a crystal hidden behind a wall that my party can't understand. I have 12 Arcane Lore, 2 Vahnatai Lore, and I think at least 1 Sage Lore. Do I need more VL to read it? It's in the fortress where Gaddika was hiding. I think that's all, but I may add more later. Thanks in advance for any help. :-)
  13. Hi. I'm having trouble with the demon in the castle jail, and I was wondering if I went wrong somewhere with character customization. The first party I created couldn't hit anything, so I started a new game. So far, I've not had any problems playing on normal difficulty. I don't think I made any changes to the starting party roster. I have a soldier, scout/rebel, priest, and a mage. They're currently at level 9 and 10. The cultist and demon annihilate them before they each get a turn. My soldier has around 30% resistance to magic, I think, but I'd have to check. He and the rebel get lightning damage and terrified right off the bat. Their endurance is 9 and 10, but hardiness is low. I decided to try the character editor and changed the difficulty to casual, but I'd rather play without the editor if it's possible. I've been playing the second trilogy without too many issues, and I have an A4 party on tricky. They don't get killed as easily in boss fights, and they don't take much damage from the chitrachs. So, should I be able to play Avernum: EftP on normal without the character editor? I quit without saving after I enabled the editor because I don't like to cheat unless I have no other choice. It's just frustrating to see my party miss so much, especially when some of these creatures get two or three attacks per turn. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  14. Thank you for replying so quickly and for explaining that. I thought I was doing something wrong, or that my game was bugged. Horyn rewarded me for completing the mushroom blight test, so not getting a reward from Meryhew is no big deal. I'm rather "OCD-ish" when it comes to exploring and completing EVERYTHING in my games, and I was already becoming frustrated over not finding the Blessed Shortsword in the Blosk Ruins. I killed all the bandits before looting anything to get the highest reward from the mayor of Dharmon. He gave me 300 coins and a Terror Wand, and then I went back to finish looting the ruins. I found everything except that sword! Argh!!! Thanks again!
  15. Hi! I'm new to the forums, but I own all Spiderweb games except the first three games/old First Avernum Trilogy, Blades of Exile, and Avadon: The Black Fortress. Am I supposed to Aid Dharmon, Aid Gnass, and Aid Patrick's Tower before reporting to Meryhew? I'm asking because, according to the walkthrough, I can receive the reward(s) for completing two out of three quests, and still complete the third after Meryhew gives me the Great Portal quest. I've had trouble in at least two games when I've completed the third quest of the original three. There's no dialogue option with Meryhew despite the fact that the text says that I can still complete any quests I'd currently been working on prior to receiving the Great Portal quest. I finished the Aid Dharmon and Aid Gnass quests. She gave me the Great Portal quest and then I completed the Aid Patrick's Tower quest. Horyn told me to report to The Castle when I completed the mushroom blight test for her, but as I mentioned, I have no dialogue option for completing that quest with Meryhew. The quartermaster doesn't acknowledge that 'I've done enough' to receive more supplies either. Thanks in advance for any help.
