  1. The agent. It's strange, since in most games I prefer to use melee combat rather than magic. But, in Geneforge, this is what works best for me.
  2. Greta. I just prefer agents. In my first game, both of them actually left and refused to re-join me. I was mainly rebel, but trying to stay a bit neutral. Obviously, it wasn't neutral enough. Or maybe it was too neutral. Hmm... Anyway, I'm trying again as a loyal agent, and I still prefer Greta.

Geneforge 3 has a different kind of zone in some places, that you can't 'exitzone' out of. Playing the other Geneforges doesn't mean you will know this, because the other Geneforges didn't have this kind of zone. The best idea is to not use the exitzone cheat at all. Or at least, F3 or save right before.
  4. Sharon needs the pure crystal shard to make that ring, I believe. I'm not sure if it's useful anywhere else, since I always go for the ring.
  5. I think you should work on one for GF1. If nothing else, it keeps you in practice while you wait for GF3.
  6. On topic again, I quite like the trainer. I especially like the unlimited hitpoints, which is often the only part I use. Plus, it has things for creations, which is great if you like to have your own undefeatable mini-army.

I blame the schools... come, tell me about your childhood... Hostility? I'm just saying that some people (not necessarily myself) can be strict about that sort of thing. I've never run into trouble over it, and never caused trouble over it. I have, however, seen people get quite upset about it. EDIT: Corrected unclear phrasing.

Didn't they create the spawners and turrets in geneforge 1? Weren't the turrets supposed to be difficult to make? I should go play that again, actually... As for improvements to GF4: How far can you 'improve' a game before it becomes a completely different game? I really just hope that it is like the other Geneforge games, and runs on my clunky old computer. EDIT: Isn't this question just a bit premature? Geneforge 3 isn't even out for windows yet. And if anyone tells me to get a mac, they'd better be willing to pay for it.

Would it be any fun to play a commoner? Here is the part where I'm tempted to say how much I enjoy playing commoners... But that's in an entirely different setting. I am all for suspension of disbelief in games. If you want 'realism' play the Sims (I actually rather enjoy the Sims 2) but if you want to create a mini-army of creatures and rid small islands of rogues, well, there's got to be some sacrifice. In this case, it's the reality that goes. But, there are other games dedicated to that, so it's not a big deal. You can't have it both ways. Although, a combination of the Sims and Geneforge might not be all bad... Yeah, okay, it probably would be, but still...
  12. Killing Shanti doesn't really do anything, at least not in the first few zones. (If you kill her in one, she just appears again in the next) Well, it means you don't learn whatever skill she teaches (Daze for agents, but different for shapers and guardians) if you kill her before that point. I wasn't game to try it in one of the 'town' areas, with all those other NPCs around. Actually, I might have killed her in that little house that she stays in until she goes missing, but I think the town turned hostile on me. Save first. Unless you want the town to turn hostile. Hmm... I can't believe I'm the only person to have tried killing Shanti, but I'm glad I'm not the only one to have thought of it.
  13. Fyora. They're cute, compact, and combustible. (I couldn't really think of another c word to describe the fire part) Fire! I don't really use creations, so I might just whip up a fyora (as it is a very early -- the first? -- creation, and doesn't cost much essence) to scout out areas I'm not sure are safe yet. Plus, they breathe fire. And don't get me started on drayks and drakons... They're too smug for their own good, they think that they're better than everyone else. I didn't mind so much in Geneforge 1, there were only a couple of drayks, and they seemed pretty neutral. But then in Geneforge 2... No, I much prefer the fyora.
  14. It was a tough choice to make, between agents and guardians. Generally, I prefer agents, but there are times when all I want to do is bash things up close. I don't really like having creations (although that is actually what attracted me to the game in the first place: I thought the fyoras looked cute. Okay, and the fire. Fire is good) so shaper was never an option for me. I usually build up the agent's combat stats as well, though. I prefer melee to magic, but I like the fire spell. Did I mention I like fire? As for the graphics? Agent, every time. But the graphics really don't make much difference to me.
  15. That one says it requires Windows NT 4/2000/XP ... Anyone know of an emulator that will work with 98?
  16. I kind of feel obligated to point this out... Geneforge is not Exile. You like Exile, you play Exile. I don't like Exile, personally, I play Geneforge. I loved the simplicity of the first one, and the second one was cool, to a point. I want a simple game, to give my poor head a rest. Almost everything you seem to want to change is exactly what I want to stay the same, or change in a completely different way. Being nice, I'll focus on the parts I do agree with. Playing something other than a shaper would be fun, but preferably something human, like a rogue servile perhaps. (I'm still of the belief that serviles are the modified losers of the ancient war mentioned in the first game) Hmmm, actually, re-reading the post and that seems about all I agree with. The rest seems like more headache than it's worth. It's causing me a headache just reading about it, and I enjoy reading. Well, that's all my feeble little brain can come up with, for now. I'll probably look at this later and wonder why on earth I wrote that. *shrug* Disclaimer: The above is my personal opinion, and is not intended as a flame or otherwise less-than-polite post.

And if you're reading this, your curiousity is probably just as insatiable as everyone else reading this thread. Let us speculate, or our heads might explode. Or ache. It's all the same. By the time Geneforge 3 comes out? Heck, I've forgotten what my original theory was already!
  18. Hear hear! I personally don't mind what my character looks like, but it's bothering me, wondering why there's never any male agents around. The guardian, well, I can live with that one looking rather masculine - bulky armor and all that. But the agent should either have different graphics for either gender, or be less feminine. Not that I really mind the gender of my characters. Although, I did name my Shaper 'Sandra' instead of the default Andras.. Renamed just about all the pickup creations I gathered in that game to 'real' names, too... Then abandoned that pre-patch game in favour of a guardian. "Me smash!" More low end creations would actually be pretty cool. There's just something disturbing, to me anyway, about having creations that are far stronger than the supposed apprentice that shaped them... Also, a 'pack mule' creation ... Maybe this could be a use for those create Ornk canisters? Ornks could probably carry stuff for you, since they don't seem much good for anything else. Well, other than comedic value... I was playing GF1 the other day, and the 'Ornk Lord' still cracks me up every time.

True... It could be anything. Maybe even a recipe for the Geneforge. (mix 1 puddle of goop with 1 part augmented drayk, bring to the boil, stir) Or some new kind of canister, perhaps for serviles... The takers seem like the most likely to try and make servile-friendly canisters... And then not let the serviles use them. The possibilities are endless.

  21. I think it's either a drakon, or a spawner that creates drakons... My reasoning for this: Drakons can shape. They can create drakons. So, bam, there's another drakon in the cell. They either battle it out or create more drakons. Eventually, it leads to a fight of some kind, and only the strongest survive. Although, this seems like more of a Barzite strategy, now that I think about it... Who thinks that the strongest of Gazak-Uss will be back in GF3?
  22. Just out of curiousity, what time do the Geneforge orders by email get processed? I gave my mum the money, since she has a credit card, and she sent the order off over an hour ago. I can be patient, I've waited this long anyway, but when should the reply come?
