  1. Firstly, he was referring to the MOVIE (motion picture) of Harry Potter. While I disgust the thought of anything Harry Potter (you call that fantasy?), I did happen to know that. Secondly, unless you want to offend RPG heads, it's usually spelt 'griffon'. The y is used by modern people who read Harry Potter. Also, a scenario revolving around saving/killing griffons is hardly anything to be excited about. Maybe some... oh I dunno... story might help? On second thought, these boards lack many (any?) RPG heads... so use the y if you want. I'll get over it.
  2. Force: No. But if you want to include a pre-made party, go ahead. You'll just need to let the user know that the scenario will not be enjoyable without using the supplied character. You could do what I like to do, and look over the player's inventory. If they aren't carrying a certain item (meaing they aren't using your characters), kill them instantly! Good way to 'force' usage.

Or what name they might be under... Which scenarios would these be? That's the problem. I, personally, no longer hold copies. And I think they were deleted from the internet years ago. I wasn't a member of the forums back then (I just spied), so I can't tell you what monikers they might be under. Probably for the better, seeing as how bad they most likely were. I was proud of 2/6. They usually dealt with a satanic cult called the "People of Set", who tried various schemes to bring their god, Set, back to the world and kill all the infidels. So the names of the scenarios had tendencies to be along those lines. I can't quite recall some examples... I'll try to find some records of them somewhere. Anyway, I suggest trying my style as it seemed a bit different than most, with the way I developed characters. It would seem that most people (no one) has played them, so perhaps someone would like to try them out to tell me if I should even bother or not. I recall a moniker, "Izod". So try looking for that.
  4. I'm currently working on something. It uses only custom graphics... nothing that came with the game. Needless to say, making those graphics is taking the longest time (tho that will probably change when I get further into the story and such). I was going to suggest getting used to my "style", but I have no idea where any of my BOE scenarios ended up. Or what name they might be under...
  5. I used to get this a lot on files I tried to download. This can usually be fixed by a restart, I've found. I think it's typically your computer, not the website.
  6. Possible, yes. Worth it? No. Oops... I'm still not here...
  7. Next week, aye? Sounds good. Perhaps I will be able to get into it!
  8. That problem can simply be fixed by--- oh wait, no... no it can't be simply fixed. I suppose the only way to help with writer's block is to take classes on how to develop stories and such. But, that's obviously a retarded idea, not worthy of a glance. So in other words, if you are just DYING to be a scenario creator, make lots of tiny, hopelessly addictive 'shorts' that mimic the story of common folktales or legends. That way, the story is out of the way, and all you have to do is make the tangible side of the scenario! Brilliant(if not obvious)!
  9. I think it's clearly lying the state of the player's gathering of facts. It's much like famous poems or novels; we all get what we see out of it. Chances are, most characters aren't specifically designed for what we think. There are just made, and our human minds conduct all of the tying in. Perhaps they were subconciously meant to have these strings, but then again who are we to draw this conclusion?
  10. I can't say I gathered that. I felt as if he was trying to (and accomplished) push his view on why characters are there. This, of course, all going back to the Why? article. But... that's my opinion. I will have to agree on Creator's point. Even if it is somewhat... obvious? But perhaps that's just because I do have experience with such creations. If any of you know me, or my design style, you'll know I, too, favor strong characters and a plot woven tightly with them. I hardly ever use "filler" NPCs, just to make the world seem populated. Everyone has a purpose. Yay for characters!
  11. Glad to see you're back, Drakey. I don't feel like piecing... pieces of this topic together to get information, so I'm just gunna ask: What do we know about these "Centurion Avengers"? What are they? Where'd they come from? Why did they come? Would they be a reasonable force for putting in scenarios?
  12. The point of this project is to give those who want it a set of scenarios and guidelines to make "official" scenarios. If one doesn't want to follow this, then by all means, don't follow it. I already have plans for my website to include a section of what I would refer to as "official", meaning they follow what _I_ think happens. I understand your want to not come across as the bad-guy, *i, and I mean the same. This group of us just wants something to keep with the original history.
  13. Seeing as how I pretty much (someone else helped inspire...) this whole deal about Exile/Avernum history, you guys should let me handle the First Visitation. Yea well, I just got home from Atlanta, GA, USA. The Lutheran National Youth Gathering was there, big event, and I of course, attended. But yea lets not talk about that. I've missed LOTS of posts of important information, so I've been reading up for the past half hour. And from the looks of it, I'd really like to be a part of this undertaking. Like I said, I would really like to handle the First Visitation, seeing as that's what my scenarios are based on. Consider this a formal request for the involved's permission.
  14. YES... well... not yet. I'm making it! I already have the plans on paper. No one else use that idea or I'll... do something... Actually, I started making one for BOE (back in the BOE days) but never finished it. I never will, obviously, so I'll just use the stuff I made for that for BOA. FalcataG helped me with it, but then he left and I never saw him again. A sad story really...
  15. Yes yes yes... but the point was to get more indepth information on some of the lesser known events, such as the First Visitation. There's plenty more, that was just an example. Such characters that we don't know anything about (Karzoth, Thralni) could come alive, will vibrant detail. That was the point. But it's not happening. So we should stop talking about it...
  16. Reply from Jeff on the book: It is one of those things I would love to do. The problem is time. Between the multiple games I'm working on, other projects, and raising a toddler, I just don't have time for a lot of things it would be really cool to do. Sorry! - Jeff Vogel Spiderweb Software, Inc. so that's a NO... damn...
  17. you like ruining people's days, don't you Drakey. Well I'm sorry you don't find a history book being a good idea. I really am. Well without Drakey's support, it's bound to never be done. Oh well... it was a good thought while it lasted...
  18. Haha... only HALF-jokingly? He better do it after the release or I WILL kill somebody. Edit: Oh yea, I already went ahead and e-mailed Jeff with the initial idea. He usually (ie. always) responds quickly so I should get his opinion on the matter by tomorrow. THEN we can discuss the little details.
  19. Great. I think I'll e-mail him now about. If anything, just to see what he says. TO ANYONE: If you'd like to see this happen (the book), e-mail him as well. More the people we get, the greater out influence.
  20. Exactly. And maybe it's just me, but "boring" history has never been boring to me. I love history. It was always my favorite subject. And I've just had an idea... Jeff should write a book or something about the history of his world. An in depth book. I would definatly buy it!
  21. Well that's you. Some of us prefer to play role-playing games as, amazingly, role-playing games. Not just action games. Don't get me wrong, I love action games. But to me, an RPG has to have much more depth than how much damage my sword is going to do. And usually, a living, evolving world helps to create that feel of... uh... something...
  22. Hah Drakey, I'm aware of that but I meant in a playing form. I realize I should have been more specific. Yea I'm quite aware of the history of this "universe". My scenarios will actually show my version of some bits of history. WHAT I MEANT was that I wanted to see how other users interpreted this grand-scale place of wonder. Sorry for the confusion.
  23. I'm definatly going to have to agree with you there. We need more information on the Empire and it's lands!
