  1. I have replayed Geneforge 1 and 2 a few times. I like them because they are fun, cool tactics and not really that long. I haven't played Geneforge 3-5. Which of those games might I like for the reasons listed? I am really lookin for something like the original which is just too awesome.
  2. Well aren't there any parry items that give that effect early in the game? I don't remember there being parry for all classes like in Avernum.
  3. The fight or fights in that area was my way of exit from Avadon 2 and the entrance to Avadon being the hardest series Jeff made. While Avadon 1 was easy, Avadon 2 lacks any real defense for mitigating damage. Avernum remake was medium difficulty as far as series go and Geneforge was easy with a singleton guardian or agent. I dont understand this game's fight mechanics and they are pure luck based in that fight. You just got to hope you don't lose 1 character from getting poorly targeted. When you move away from an enemy you can't go anywhere like in Avernum and Geneforge games forcing half of the builds to be [censored].
  4. I will use a guardian in Geneforge 2 but not sure if mechanics works like Geneforge 1. In the 1st game you don't gain exp from unlocking things. But in Geneforge 4 and 5 you do.
  5. I understand but is it possible to beat the game without one and said party above?
  6. So a Blademaster (melee), Tinker (ranged no turrets) and Shadowalker (razordisks) wont be able to complete the game? I haven't found a use for turrets in case you don't know. Summoning them is a waste of a round which could be used to deal damage. On top of that, the razor disk attack turrets never hit. I usually use them at level 6 and on. What is the point of bringing things closer when you waste rounds doing that. If you use missiles you don't need to. Maybe the tinkermage class just sucks. They are already a weak shadowalker and blade master with melee and the shadowalker and blade master are still better at ranged combat. I know, lets summon a clock master which shoots needles and scares people on halloween!
  7. afdfazsdsjkfdjsZjszadskjfksjAFJSDFKSADFDAKDJSFJDKSFDKJSDSFDKSD EDIT-HOW DID THIS DOUBLE POST HAPPEN
  8. I thought of using a Melee Blademaster npc, my character which is a single class shooter tinker mage who gets lots of dexterity and the last I am confused on. I don't like Shamans or any spell caster in this game. Without the dexterity thing in 1st game its too frustrating to keep them alive. Could I sub in a shadowalker who uses ranged weapons or would that be extreme. This game is insanely hard. I am hoping that this works out.
  9. Wayfarer wasn't very hard, Miranda was ridiculously hard with your player character, red beard was a joke and just used the soul jars to support himself. Redbeard=more rogue than the wayfarer. Because he used his hidden ginger powers to make him impossible to kill. I still enjoy fighting him though because I still like his personality and character.
  10. The rats can squash a whole party in Avadon 2. Avadon 1, my party killed the rats, reanimated them and then killed them again. Redbeard was a joke with his attacks in the 1st game. Its just getting past his defenses that makes it pointless and not worth the ending. Without his defenses I would say my shaman could take him out alone. If there was a way to remove his defense assistance would that be possible. I want to see.
  11. I was at level 13 for Tinkermage, Yoshiria, and Yannick. I never could understand how to properly use sorcerers. The only reason nathalie managed to stay alive was because of the dexterity bonus. The miranda teleport stuff was ridiculous. I don't know how anyone could get past that without losing at least 2 party on normal. Casual I still died about 4 times. Yoshi had 15 dexterity and 9 endurance, My tinker guy had 15 strength and 11 endurance, and yannick had 14 intelligence and endurance was 8 endurance. Edit-Oh and are you supposed to grind more until you are 15. Ive been grinding for at least 1 hour before each main quest. The spectre I had to get 2 extra levels as well.
  12. Is there any trick to getting past the cactus rats and area with a suboptimal party? It would seem like seeing as everyone is gung-ho on the tinker mage and power game parties that regular parties just have a ridiculous time surviving without just going straight down the left column. I tried using the tinkermage turrets but I don't find them useful at all. Razor ones are ok but I really wish there was a shredder turret that decimates these melee mobs. Ranged weapons didn't work very good in this game. Razordisks weren't doing enough damage on yoshiria who had all dexterity. The only attacks that are awesome are all the melee attacks that blade master, Shadowalker and tinkermage get. Bladelash dealt good damage on my tinkermage and I should have brought a shaman instead of a sorcerer. Its impossible to keep the sorcerer class safe in the miranda fight. They will die regardless of what I tried. Any tips?
  13. How can it be done. Ranged characters can't take hits, spell casters can die from a small breeze, fighters are weak. I did everything that strategy central said but it wont help. These boss fights are beyond brutal. Casual difficulty is too hard for them. Any ideas?
  14. Thank you sir! Just favorited that for future playthroughs. Im going to try a Tinkermage Melee fighter, a blade master who fights in all forms and a shaman who goes with battle magic. I used dexterity and intelligence for previous shaman spell caster. I guess intelligence and endurance will have to settle.
  15. I just remember Silke saying that I need to get the satchel. So with all that figured out, what is the best way to go about making a party that actually works. I wanted to play a melee tinkermage and maybe a fighter and a shaman. Ive made shamans before but don't like Sorcerers because they are too fragile. It would seem that blade masters far outdo shadowalkers in melee. Any ideas on something that works? I want to really make a successful fighter tinkermage and the other party members are up to decide. I am so f* bad at this game.
  16. So jeff made that part impossible, great. Was the game rushed. From what you were saying it seems like it might still be in beta or alpha. Will there be another patch to fix this stuff?
  17. I am using a shadowalker with Str/Dex/endurance, a sorcerer with dexterity/intelligence, and my tinkermage with strength and endurance and enchantments of dexterity for resistance and speed. Why the heck did jeff have to break dexterity. I got to start all over and lost 5 hours. The first game had ranged enemies all throughout the game. This game has melee enemies that can just as easily shred through your fighters with no problem. My tinkermage is a badass as he can at least take some hits but shadowalker girl is just a eunuch.
  18. This game is horribly frustrating. I played through Avadon 1 with little problems and tried different combinations with party of 3. With this game I am only getting through each minor encounter of Cactus rats with 1 person in party dying and the other two near death at all times. Getting past Miranda was an act of god. I really don't think this game is very well balanced out with party members. Tinker mages I just don't get and the only character in my party who rocks in Yoshiria because she is a shadowalker and they rock. Sorcerer Yannick is just awful and is the main reason I have no chance as he always dies. All the enemies are brutal melee characters and just destroy anything in my party. Without the dexterity bonus from the first game I can't see getting past mid game. Way too frustrating.
  19. The game has been out for 4 days. How would I be able to complete it that fast. It took me 1 week and a half on Avadon 1 which is what I was talking about.
  20. A pure melee fighter can't take Miranda on one on one. Its not possible. A ranged attacker or spell caster can do it they haste themselves and use scarabs and attacks, but they need to be around level 27 or so. I did it at level 26. Im sorry Charlie but melee is about as useless as a corpse
  21. I played Avadon 2 with My character a mechanical rogue, a sorcerer, and a shadowalker. The shadow walker, she is good as a melee/ranged hybrid so she's ok, The sorcerer is built the same way I built Nathalie and that is dexterity/intelligence. He is deadly and slowly getting better. Its just my character who sucks so bad its awful. Jeff fixed a lot of things that were broken but he also never fixed the uselessness of melee. My character takes 2 rounds to get to most enemies while mage and ninja take 1 to get in close and the next round ninja guy can attack in melee. Ocassionaly I get to attack once in a round if close but even then Ranged will always do more damage over time. The damage isn't even better in melee other than for attacks but ranged fixes that with keeping you away. I usually play Blademasters and Shadowalker ranged but wanted to try a fighter out. I can see jeff didn't do anything about this yet. Is the game still in beta or alpha and will there be another patch to make swords/pikes have a use. I never used them in the older game and likely I can why I shouldn't use them now. Is there a respecialization somewhere because I can't see a fighter getting through this game alive.
  22. I always buy the game through the site, later on I buy it from gog and thats it. I usually buy through spiderweb because I like to talk to Mariann and Jeff when getting on the phone. I wanted to get into game design so Jeff and them are all like my heroes. Ive only spoken to Jeff twice and he's awesome. Also I guess it might be useful to have it from the main site.
  23. Randomizer, I read about melee fighters for Tinkermages, Shadowalkers and Blademasters. I am building a turret focused melee fighting tinkermage. Will I need Strength and endurance or strength, a little dexterity and a little endurance?
  24. I don't even know what to play as. I thought to use either whatever's best at what. In Avadon 1 Blademaster was king of melee and skeptical who was king at magic. Blademaster and Shadowalker were both good at ranged combat too but both in their own ways. Is there a best character in this game for each of the 3 or is it all up in the air. I am going to try the tinkermage but I don't even know what would be best. Melee, ranged or magic. The possibilities are endless and there's even romance. Jeff's been a busy boy.
  25. That's too bad. I am currently loving Avernum 4 right now and I didn't know that 5 and 6 weren't that good. I like the old-school feel to the leveling system. Its very much like the infinity engine games where you increase a lot of stuff at beginning and then slowly make changes as time goes along. If you don't mind, what didn't you like about the sequels to 4? I am having a blast with this game; the writing is superb.
