stuck on Beast of khemeria

I've fought the beast twice, but cannot find his lair. I've searched through all the trapdoors but can't find any way to get to his lair. I'm assuming it's across the river north of the starting point and east of the three trapdoors but I can't find a way there. Anyone?

Two of those three trapdoors lead to the ogre skulltaker. The third trapdoor, the one in the middle, will lead you east to the second settlement and the beast's lair.

 

Dikiyoba thinks you'll have to fight a bunch of rainbow lizards once you are on the right underground tunnel.
